They have isolated a 3rd Dallas Nurse. She had went on a Cruise with Carnival Cruise lines. They say there is little chance she is infected. Also that it has been 19 days. The Country of Belize would not let her in. State Dept is trying to find a way to get her back here. What say ye?

.....Cruise Ship.

Obama administration officials said a Dallas health care worker who handled a lab specimen from a Liberian man who died from Ebola is self-quarantined on a Caribbean cruise ship and is being monitored for infection. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said in a statement Friday that the woman had shown no signs of the disease and has been asymptomatic for 19 days.

The government is working to return the woman and her husband to the U.S. before the ship, the Carnival Magic, completes its cruise. The White House said the State Department was working to secure their transportation home. An administration official who was not authorized to be named and requested anonymity said the cruise ship had stopped in Belize but officials there would not allow the passenger to leave the vessel.....snip~

Re: Dallas Health Care Worker Who Handled Specimen From Ebola Victim Quarantined On..

The route through Mexico seems to work well.

Re: Dallas Health Care Worker Who Handled Specimen From Ebola Victim Quarantined On..

Taking a cruise probably isn't the best option... granted people plan vacations etc.... but this Ebola issue has take a life of it's own. She's probably not a very popular passenger on the boat right now - both with the passengers and the cruise line, who will most likely (out of an abundance of caution) have to take the boat out of service and clean it from bow to stern. That's also the last thing cruise lines need is another potential virus infection on a boat. They have enough trouble with the norovirus getting people sick on boats, not to mention potentially Ebola.

Well, until getting there. ;)

Yeah they say she isolated herself.....but that's not what really went down. Although she hasn't been locked down until she found out. So how many days was she out and about? Did she swim in their pool?

Should they hold all on that Ship?

Re: Dallas Health Care Worker Who Handled Specimen From Ebola Victim Quarantined On..

For those keeping score at home, 1 Ebola patient has led to the quarantine or voluntary quarantine of roughly... 8,000 people.

And Nurse#2, it is now reported, attended a bachelorette party while in Cleveland. No chances of body fluid sharing there!

Mornin' JM. :2wave: Have they even come out with the numbers as to how many the 2nd nurse came into contact with in Akron Ohio?

Not that I know of. The only report I read was that two strippers are on voluntary quarantine. Which is comforting given that they were only exposed (PUN!) because they came in contact with someone on voluntary quarantine.

They shouldn't take any chances with this Cruise Ship either.....they need to know how many days she was out on deck or doing whatever.

I don't think they should hold everyone on the ship but they should be monitored for the next 21 days. They need to go on a list.... I don't think we're at the point yet where we would corral this boat load of people into a quarantine area for the next 3 weeks. But they should be aware there may be a chance they contracted the disease and should be on alert.

That's ridiculous. Just because she's asymptomatic and has been for 3 weeks doesn't mean that she's not a festering pot of death. If these people really mean business then they need to set the ship on fire and burn everyone on board to death. It's the only prudent thing to do.

So what do you want to do? If you've been within 50' for someone who may or may not have been in contact with someone who has, had or might get ebola you should quarantine yourself?

Greetings, Lutherf. :2wave:

Oh, absolutely! Being in the middle of the ocean, what else can they do? As a matter of curiosity, how could Belize even know that this nurse who might have Ebola was on board the ship? Are there lists of people by name being sent to everyone?

That was my question as well. I figure she must have been on a CDC watch list or something.

Someone said she was the only Medical person they couldn't account for out of the 76.....but even so. How did Belize then know who she was and not let her into their country?

Here's the deal. Yes, there are isolated cases of Ebola in the US and other developed countries, but they have the ability to contain the disease. But our concern should be in the 3 African nations where Ebola is running rampant. Let me explain....

In Western Africa, there is not much government infrastructure, people are generally suspicious of doctors, and due to religion there is no education. Therefore, people there are ignorant about Ebola, which is causing the spike in cases there. And, according to Darwin (yes, the theory of evolution is real), a species obtains new traits by selective breeding. This means that, if a population of any organism increases enough, the chances increase for an adaptation to occur. The adaptation that I would be worried about is ebola mutating to become an airborne contagion. Should that happen, then we would really have something to worry about here in the US, because we could be talking about a major population crash here on Earth, including the US. This could easily wipe out half the Earth's population, should it become airborne. Ebola is 10,000 times as contagious as AIDS.

That is why ebola has to be fought in Africa.

Heya Dan. :2wave: They have the ability to contain the disease.....yes. As long as Protocols are followed. So far we have seen two of our medical people get infected. All because the protocols were not followed. Then we also cannot have the Fed lying about how all hospitals and medical people are ready to deal with this. As clearly.....such was not the case.

Moreover, planting seeds of confusion causes more fear than normal.

It will be handled here, but it also needs to be handled in Africa before enough cases develop for the virus to mutate and possibly become airborne.

Well.....it can be. Depends on the levels of competence. Which for the time being.....not many are so trusting of this Admin.

You do know we have 3 Centers in Africa......just not in those infected countries. Any reason why they weren't being accessed?
