Obama administration ignored the CDC’s advice to prevent an Ebola outbreak

Saying that the only people reporting this are the Washington Times, and Prison Planet/Infowars, I think I'll wait a little bit before I comment.

I'm not going to download 4 pages of PDF files, but from the abstract, that is not a paper, that is an opinion. One with which I disagree. I'm not that concerned with the ethical considerations. I'm concerned about the safety of the American people.
As for legal, we all know the President still has his pen and his phone. It's time to use them.

The economic consequences of shuting down the ability of the west African to conduct trade and travel would cause more harm then good.
Not only that, it would be racist!

Quarantined areas are no longer acceptable in today's Liberals world it seems, and we should just continue to mix and mingle in order to generate better economies. Yet, oddly, my understanding was that capitalists were the greedy ones who took these sorts of risks, not the liberals.

Anyway, Jesse Jackson understands the real problem and was able to pin it down before Al Sharpton got a chance. Rev. Jesse Jackson accuses Hospital of racism over Ebola death | eCanadaNow

Traval restrictions only give the illusion of security, one that only delays the inevitable by 4 or 5 weeks.

The best thing to do is to fight the disease at its source and effectivly track patients who are exhibiting symptoms of the disease.

How do you do that with a 21 day incubation period ?

So you're all for letting people fly in who have the disease but are not exhibiting symptoms ?

The current process they're using wouldn't have stopped Duncan.

In that delay period we might just come up with an effective method to cure or control the disease in the US. We do have promising cures. Apparently the supply is limited and the pre marketing studies have not been completed. It's time to implement some emergency measures.

Controlling the disease in Africa? Do you have any idea what you are asking? This is an area of the world where people wipe their butts with their hands then proceed to cook dinner. There are over 3000 deaths, and lord knows how many illnesses. Few are quarantined, and so contact are in the millions. Good luck

And by shuting down the airports in those countries we would lose a valubable resource: tracking potentially infected people.

The plane that brought Duncan over from Africa should be renamed the " Ebola Gay "...

What do you guys think ??

So we're supposed to be angry that Obama didn't simply rubber stamp recommendations by a beuacratic government entity that wanted that want to significant expand it's spending and reach?

I know the ends justifies the means for many people, but seriously...some of us give a damn about consistency here.

If in 2008 Obama had just blindly went along with the CDC's recommendations and put forward support for funding of 18 new "health centers" all over the world he'd likely have been tore a new one, understandably so, for reckless spending within the beuacracy. Especially considering agencies are notorious for over estimating in their recommendations since it's a near given that the full recommendation will be scaled back.

Sorry, but I'm not going to harp on Obama for not doing something I likely would've had an issue with him doing at the time simply due to hindsight. Especially since it's parent cabinet department, Health and Human Services, is one of the most routinely pointed to departments that Republican candidates and politicians and supporters have pointed at as being a prime candidate to be scaled back and cut in terms of funding.

Sorry, on this case I just see nothing to get up in arms about.

Liberia's economy has basically ground to a halt. Their Farmers and agriculture has been devastated and they wont return to their fields. The other Nations are taking a hit too.

Which what do you have to say about other countries putting up travel bans from those infected Nations?

I tend to agree. I don't know of any President that would have done anything any different. Government is always reactive. Even the Founding Fathers didn't start the country until the British implemented a tax on tea.

Other than blaming somebody else, the question should be what do we do now?

Good luck trying to find out who is infected.

Uhm the Saudi placed a travel ban in effect.....that means they aren't really letting anyone in from those infected countries. So they aren't really trying to find out who is infected. But that don't mean they wont be on the lookout.

Going into or traveling there.....is a different story.

The Chinese did put people and supplies on the ground in the infected countries.

Not enough to help the volenteers from doctors without borders.

Normally I would agree with you about bureaucratic spending but in this case, I would not mind overspending. Whatever they asked for they should have been given imo.

They didn't say they would be working with the us or those in the west. Moreover the Medical people in Liberia are threatening to go on strike if they are not given more money and the equipment they want. Half of the medical people working at the source. Have died.

And many more might die but that is the risk that we must take in order to stop ebola.

The CDC just issued a "Ebola Alert " for New York.

Supposedly there are CARRIERS that are expected to travel into New York City.

How is that possible ? They're STILL allowing people to travel in from Ebola ravaged Nations and now they're issuing "warnings" ??

After something like this there's alot of Shoulda, Woulda, Couldas, agencies approach you with all sorts of recommendations and requests and you gotta prioritize those and weigh it against the money involved and risk.

This is not a disease that had ever struck West Africa before and nobody could have predicted an outbreak like this, at no point in modern history has a Level 4 pathogen infected so many people so quickly across such a large geographical area, its simply unprecedented.

The CDC predicted this, over 6 years ago. They even recommended to Obama that he take an active part in the health of Africa-kinda like Bush had done. Its our Presidents job to be prepared for the unprecedented, and to act competently when something is encountered. Obama has done neither.
Obama did not act-but what his petty little party just tried to do (blame the outbreak on sequestration) hints at their deseparation.

Even now, why aren't heads rolling at the CDC and new leaders put into place? Because Obama is an incompetent chump-thats why.
