The matriarch of the Bush family may be coming around to the idea of extending their political dynasty.

According to her son Jeb Bush, at least.

The former Florida governor told the Associated Press that his mother, former first lady Barbara Bush is now neutral to the idea of him running for president in 2016. It is a notable reversal from her comments last year on NBC"s "Today" when she said the country has had enough Bushes in the White House.

The only way that Jeb Bush will ever see the inside of the White House is as a guest.I don't believe that America will put another Bush in the White House.

We could nickname him 'Hedge'.

Yep....GWB destroyed whatever chance Jeb had of ever becoming President (Bobby Jindal has more of a chance). There won't be another Bush in the whitehouse for at least another generation.

actually, in an election against hillary, i believe he would prevail
he has some of the charisma bill possesses but that hillary is without
that would be the difference which would put him over the top in a head-to-head competition

while that name will handicap him initially, as the public grows to know him separate and apart from dubya, his surname will have little impact on the voting public
in contrast, as the public sees hillary has little of what bill has, in terms of political acumen and charisma, her prospects will fade

Jeb Bush will not be president of the USA, mainly because his last name is Bush.

Don't take my word for this, just wait and see.

If jeb runs, he may win. No one really knows, despite what others on this thread say. Jeb is not gwb as much as the low info libs want it to be true

jeb is the smart one
the one the family assumed would be president one day
dubya was the black sheep

i would vote for jeb before hillary ... and i recognize dubya was an incompetent, who allowed himself to be lead around by cheney
if hillary is the opposition, the choice becomes another clinton versus another bush. and of the two, jeb is a much better prospect as a national leader. let me ask: what does hillary stand for?
yep, after all these years, i don't know either

Currently Romney ahead of Obama if the elections were held today. I wouldn't write off Jeb.

As a Floridian that lived under Jeb's term as Governor. I can verify that he is NOT the smart one. He (and the FL legislature) behaved like an imbecile in the Terry Schaivo case. I you like shameless pandering you'll love Jeb.

On October 21, 2003, at the encouragement if Governor Jeb Bush, the Florida legislature passed "Terri's Law," a measure specifically giving Bush the unilateral power to replace Terri Schiavo's feeding tube, which had been removed, for the second time during the endless litigation, six days earlier The law was nakedly, almost hilariously, unconstitutional, in part because it directly contradicted a law the legislature had passed during a less frenzied time several years earlier

As I understand it he was a popular state governor. Now he may not be a conservative-but that makes him even more popular amongst moderates and independents.

The left really should be cautious in writing him off.

Being against Hillary is the only shot I can see Jeb having in possibly getting elected simply because the "OMG enough Dynasty crap and these old tierd names" isuse basically is even.

You can argue that people were more fond of Bill Clinton than GWB, and that will have some impact, but I don't think that'll be so strong to overcome how people feel about Hillary and Jeb which I think could be different.

Jeb going against ANYONE ELSE on the Democratic ticket would be a dead man imho. There's just too much antipathy towards the "old" connections with him. But against Hillary I think that becomes an extremely limited factor and thus becomes a more even race.

As a diehard Republican i have this to say about a Jeb Bush presidential run:

PLEASE GOD NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

He's too moderate for the republicans. They also don't like his views on illegal immigration from Mexico.

your posts have consistently suggested that you think anyone who isn't a far lefty is stupid so I really don't have much faith in your assessment. One thing Jeb has going for him that his little Brother did not is he will appeal to Latinos far better than his brother.

Factor in the fact that a good number of democrats are throwing up in their mouth actual speaking the words "I support Hillary Clinton for President", I think the biggest factor of all will be just how badly ****ed up the country is perceived to be come 2016. By most reckoning, Bush did a pretty decent job in Florida. If he chooses to run and has a solid message, he has decent appeal and at least a 50/50 shot.

I doubt he will be the GOP nominee. Im not near as convinced Hillary will be the dem nominee as I was a year ago.

Stupid is as stupid does and the way he handled that Schaivo case was not smart. He will never get the nomination unless the Party appoints him anyway. He will get killed in the primaries. It is inconceivable that Rubio could be out but not Jeb who is even more "pro-immigrant" that he is. He's another "compassionate conservative" just like GW. Is that what you think the GOP needs?

that was one bit of stupidity but then again it pales compared to Cankles' screw up with our ambassador getting killed. I am hoping for Rob Portman myself.

I gotta agree with this. She's not personable at all. I couldn't get behind her at all in 2008 because she was so fake it was gross. She wanted to "break the glass ceiling" for women by out manning the men. I think we could benefit from being a more matriarchal society and here she is ,as a woman, trying to out macho the men by being more war hawkish so that she doesn't come off too womanly. Too much fakery. Don't know where she's at now but then, it was such a gross display of phoney it was impossible for me to even think of backing her.

If Hillary wins there will be another "bush" in the White House.

I don't know about that. Jeb Bush could deliver Florida, something McCain and Romney couldn't. but with two years to go, nothing is guaranteed. Not even Hillary being the Democratic nominee. I do think a lot of us long for another president like her husband, Bill. Good times basically during his presidency. But Hillary isn't Bill. Jeb isn't his dad or his brother.

I have a feeling that neither one will be vying for the presidency after their conventions are over.
