SECOND Dallas Hospital Worker Tests Positive for Ebola

A second healthcare worker at the Dallas hospital where Ebola patient Thomas Duncan was treated has tested positive for the virus, Texas health officials say.
The Texas Department of State Health Services confirmed that the worker had tested positive in a statement early Wednesday. It did not specify what position the worker held at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, though officials did say that the person was among those who provided care for Duncan, who died from the virus Oct. 8.

The statement said that the worker had reported a fever Tuesday and had been placed in isolation. Preliminary tests were run at the state public health lab in Austin and results came back at approximately midnight Wednesday. A separate test will be done at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta...

Mornin' Porchev. There are about 70 Medical workers that all came in contact with Duncan in Dallas. Now Friedman of the CDC was saying he was expecting this. Which.....if all was like he said it was with hospitals across the nation and having protocols. They wouldn't be running around talking about breach.

What is he going to say now.....that this worker didn't follow procedures either?

A certain poster yesterday said the transmission to the Nurse didn't qualify as spreading the virus from one Continent to another

Does this qualify as spreading the virus ?

Well the fact of the matter is, is that quite a number of Ebola patients have been treated in the west and so far, only these two in Texas and the Spanish nurse have fallen ill... It's a very worrying development and I'm sure we all wish them well.

But clearly something may not have been done correctly.

The rates of survival in the west are considerably better.

So you will continue to dismiss it as "nothing to see here" until it becomes something to see, then I suspect you'll be nowhere in those threads to answer for your statements.

I believe the Texas case is the only case one where someone arrived in the US non-symptomatic. The two cases of infection in the US are also firsts, and I don't believe they've pinpointed the exact date of infection on either case.

    Good morning, MMC.

C'mon, MMC, you know how careless those hospital workers are - never giving a thought for their own safety, bless their hearts! And the band plays on and on and on.....

Look j-mac, if that's how you want to interpret my post, fine go ahead.

But the reality is... I am frightened.

I work in a resort that attracts visitors from every corner of the globe, I've got a big horse in this fight.

Whether the disease comes here or stops people from travelling, my life is very much connected to this thing.

I even took the time to donate money to Doctors Without Borders because I believe we have to tackle this thing at its source.

But I have to put my faith in what we know about this disease and its infectiousness, in the west there has been a number of Ebola sufferers repatriated and treated and so far 1 nurse in Spain and the two workers in Texas bless their souls have fallen ill.

It's worrying because it shows either there's something wrong with procedure, or the equipment they used, but it doesn't change how transmission occurred which is coming into direct contact with the bodily fluids of an infected individual.

I'd also remind you that it has been almost 21 days since Mr. Duncan was not in quarantine and infectious and no one else he came into contact with got the virus.

This is a very sad day for these healthcare workers, but hundreds of other healthcare workers have already died trying to combat this terrible disease, if this isn't a call to action I don't know what is.
