The people in North Carolina lost, I haven't lost anything. This is a states' right issue and you don't seem to comprehend the ramifications of this ruling in the big picture

Lost what? The right to suppress individual freedom? Where is that right written in the constitution?

That's not what this country is founded on. This country is founded on the rights of the individual. Our constitution exists specifically to prevent the government from stepping on the rights of the individual. State oppression of individual liberty is still oppression of individual liberty.

This isn't a direct democracy. Putting the rights of the minority to the vote is not what this country is about.

You want to ban same-sex marriage? Elect representatives to overturn the 14th amendment.
Guess you must have missed the history class on the founding of this country. Interesting that the SC hasn't ruled yet, wonder why? You seem to fear the same group of people that created all those amendments, why? You want marriage in the Constitution, put it there. If not let the people of the states decide their own issues.

Was it selfish of Loving to appeal to the courts for the right to marry a different race? Do you realize it would've taken 20+ years before all states had legalized interracial marriage on their own?

The courts run this country because the voters and legislature have failed

The states can decide whatever they want, but their laws are subject to the constitution. As much as you really, really wish the 14th only applied to "laws in the constitution," that's not how it works.

Same-sex marriage bans violate equal protection, therefore they are unconstitutional. It's interesting that the Supreme Court hasn't disagreed with a single circuit court on this issue. They have, however, outright rejected your personal notion that equal protection only applies to "laws in the constitution." Or is SCOTUS only an authority when you want them to be?

You have an alternative: get your state to stop recognizing any form of marriage. That would also satisfy equal protection.

Nope. The people in NC won, equality. Some may be upset about that, but they'll get over it quickly when they realize that same sex couples getting married really doesn't affect them at all.

What did the SS couples lose? The will of the people was overturned by the courts. You call it discrimination, you call it a violation of civil rights. I call it a violation of states' rights since marriage isn't in the Constitution. No matter how many times you make the claim you are ignoring the big picture and the foundation upon which this country was built, limited central govt. and power to the people not the courts. 19 states had the will of the people overturned by the courts. You don't have a problem with that because it is an issue you support. Think of one you don't support and have that happen to you? What is happening in this country today is damn scary and you are part of the problem because you don't understand states rights at all.

Either you're defending slavery here or...you don't know how the amendment process works. There's never a ballot involved, and back then over the half the population couldn't vote anyway.
