U.S. Nurses say they are unprepared to handle Ebola patients.....

Greetings, MMC. :2wave:

I'm assuming he wasn't the only passenger on the plane, so how did they isolate him from the other passengers? Somebody in Africa said he was showing symptoms, or he would not have been sent back here for treatment!

Simple matter of fact Lady P. :2wave: .....he wasn't alone. But those are what the CDC terms secondary contacts. Plus now they are saying the Numbers were Less from the original count.

Naturally the CDC and the Fed doesn't want to start a wide spread panic......but then I wonder if they had thought about the MS media. What do you think about this info and what Nurses are saying? I think they are on the money and people cannot take this matter lightly. What say ye?

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Nurses, the frontline care providers in U.S. hospitals, say they are untrained and unprepared to handle patients arriving in their hospital emergency departments infected with Ebola. Many say they have gone to hospital managers, seeking training on how to best care for patients and protect themselves and their families from contracting the deadly disease, which has so far killed at least 3,338 people in the deadliest outbreak on record. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has repeatedly said that U.S. hospitals are prepared to handle such patients. Many infectious disease experts agree with that assessment.

"The Texas case is a perfect example," said Micker Samios, a triage nurse in the emergency department at Medstar Washington Hospital Center, the largest hospital in the nation's capital. "In addition to not being prepared, there was a flaw in diagnostics as well as communication," Samios said. Nurses argue that inadequate preparation could increase the chances of spreading Ebola if hospital staff fail to recognize a patient coming through their doors, or if personnel are not informed about how to properly protect themselves. "When an Ebola patient is admitted or goes to the intensive care unit, those nurses, those tech service associates are not trained," she said. "The X-ray tech who comes into the room to do the portable chest X-ray is not trained. The transporter who pushes the stretcher is not trained." If an Ebola patient becomes sick while being transported, "How do you clean the elevator?" A survey by National Nurses United of some 400 nurses in more than 200 hospitals in 25 states found that more than half (60 percent) said their hospital is not prepared to handle patients with Ebola, and more than 80 percent said their hospital has not communicated to them any policy regarding potential admission of patients infected by Ebola. Another 30 percent said their hospital has insufficient supplies of eye protection and fluid-resistant gowns.....snip~

Ugh, ebola won't spread, it won't become airborne, and unless people here in the extremely civilized and well-infrastructured United States:

#1 barf on you

#2 piss on you

#3 crap on you

#4 spit in your face

#5 spit in your drinks (or crap or piss)

#6 bleed all over you

you have no need to worry...

No. It takes 20 some days to exhibit symtoms. For all we know he was bright and chipper at Dulles.

He was sent home in Texas not Dulles airport.

He had to transfer flights remember. He went straight home.....or so they say. He got sick and was taken to the ER. They released him back home. According to those in Liberia.....he was seen carrying a woman who had died from the disease. They stated he should not have been allowed on a plane.

Breitbart News had an article that reported his fellow co-workers told the man knew he had Ebola when he boarded the plane, that he was fleeing to the U.S. for treatment.

Truth or Fiction, I report you decide. :)

Its already spread and is still spreading......like I mentioned before. I am not worried.....nor do I fear such things. To be aware, is to be alive.

You also forgot

1. Sneeze in your direction.
2. Cough in your direction.
3. Swipe or rub up against you while they are sweating.
4. leave fluids on objects they have touched.
5. Get into a Physical altercation with you

And yet another lie of the government being discovered.
Why are they behaving like little kids afraid of being punshed, inventing lies to get away with a prank? Not smart at all.
They should take responsibility for the situation, even if it's not perfect.
I would prefer to know how things really are, and to take all necessary measure to secure myself rather than be unaware of what's going on and get in trouble.

"swipe or rub against you"

If their fluids are on your skin you are fine, unless it finds a cavity in which it can enter your body (which nearly all cavities are on our head) before you wash you're completely fine.

"sneeze in your direction"

I have yet to meet a single person who doesn't sneeze directly into their shoulder. And I hang around with stinking freshmen in Spanish class, if they don't sneeze in people's faces, I expect an adult like you wouldn't do so also.

Skin is pourous too.....Some people have larger pores than others, usually described as porous. That isn't usually ideal, as more dirt, makeup, etc. can get stuck in the pores. You can find a cleanser that helps to shrink pores. But you can't get rid of them.

Unfortunately, I recently read somewhere that the CDC fears EBOLA is within two mutations of becoming airborne - what kind of masks will people have to wear if they need to go out to the store for food, or if they need to go to the hospital for an emergency? I can't imagine what things are going to be like in this Country! I can only hope they are frantically working on a vaccine! :twocents:

Well they did give a Doctor an experimental drug.....he says it saved his life. Now they are sending that NBC reporter to the same place.

Whichever Big Pharma conglomerate comes up with a drug to fight or eradicate this virus is going to be a hero, and also extremely wealthy! There are seven billion people in the world, and it only takes one in a crowded area to start a pandemic....

You forgot sexual contact. LOL

Of course for most people when you feeling sick sex is the last thing on your mind.

Maybe so but it sounds like hindsight to me.

Would you be willing to be our guinea pig to test that?

Your list should include medical errors as the third leading cause of death in America

How Many Die From Medical Mistakes In U.S. Hospitals? : Shots - Health News : NPR

You know sometimes I wonder why I am moderate to liberal instead of solidly conservative. Obviously the reason is that I don't walk around in a constant state of fear.

The following are the top 15 causes of death in the United States:

Cause of Death / Percent of Total
1. Diseases of the heart
28.5
2. Malignant tumors 22.8
3. Cerebrovascular diseases 6.7
4. Chronic lower respiratory diseases 5.1
5. Accidents (unintentional injuries) 4.4
6. Diabetes mellitus 3.0
7. Influenza and pneumonia 2.7
8. Alzheimer's disease 2.4
9. Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and nephrosis 1.7
10. Septicemia (blood poisoning) 1.4
11. Suicide 1.3
12. Chronic liver disease and cirrhosis 1.1
13. Primary hypertension and hypertensive renal disease 0.8
14. Parkinson's disease (tied) 0.7
15. Homicide (tied) 0.7

Just as an FYI, the odds are millions and millions and millions to one that any of the following will be your demise: terrorism, ebola, home invasions, beheading, or wild animal attack. It is a near certainty those are not what will kill you. If you are a smoker and or overweight, and you are worried about Ebola, your personal risk calculator is way off.

Today, in the United States, you have less than a 1 in 300,000,000 chance of contracting Ebola. In contrast, if you smoke, you have about a 1 in 5 chance of getting lung cancer and dying a miserable death from it. If you are obese, you will on average die about 10 years early than someone that is fit (not to mention is greatly ups your cancer risk). Personally, with all the trail running, road biking, and wilderness backpacking trips I do, if anything kills me before my time I will probably be some kind an accident resulting from some thrill junkie stunt. Point being, I don't worry about ebola killing me, terrorism killing me, some inner city youth killing me (even though I often go on runs that take me through the inner city), or any of things that statistically have little to no chance of being my demise. Similarly, I don't count on the lottery for my retirement.

Grow a pair and quit freaking out over ebola.

"An easy and effective way to identify the racists among us is to watch for the injection of race into every discussion. The racists cannot help themselves."
Thanks for not addressing my question or the issue.........very predictable though
What is predictable is your racism. Let me guess...you are a liberal, socialist, fascist, Marxist, Progressive statist. And you might be 1/6th black like the president.

And you think that would stop the virus from getting here, in today's world, where a tourist from China can be in Africa today and LA next week?

Yep that's exactly what the idiotic and mentally challenged Reagan would have done: the Stupid Ineffective Thing.

You think Chinese tourists are taking their vacation to Liberia? Lmao! They have common sense, unlike Thomas Eric Dumbcan. Dude is living in the US and vaycays in Liberia... now that I think of it, that sounds like a typical liberal voter.

I think it's obvious who the racist here is.

A black father and white mother and he's only 1/6th black? WTF?

Yeeh, we all go to Liberia.... I know conservatives would rather go to Somalia, but we'd rather stick to West Africa.
