U.S. Nurses say they are unprepared to handle Ebola patients.....

Oh my......now another in the US. Four hrs ago.

Patient with Ebola symptoms enters Washington hospital.....

A patient with symptoms that could be associated with the deadly Ebola virus and a recent travel history to Nigeria was admitted Friday to a Washington-area hospital, a spokeswoman told AFP. We can confirm that a patient has been admitted to Howard University Hospital in stable condition, following travel to Nigeria and presenting with symptoms that could be associated with Ebola," said Howard University spokeswoman Kerry-Ann Hamilton.

"In an abundance of caution, we have activated the appropriate infection control protocols, including isolating the patient." No further details were released about the patient....snip~

It could also be influenza, as the majority of these "ebola symptoms" actually have.

Don't freak out about everyone who gets the flu. That's what the media wants you to do.

Again, 99% of those three thousand cases are in Africa, primarily in the countries I've already listed. It's the same thing with HIV/AIDS. Yes there are cases here in the US, but the disease is contained here. However in Africa, it's one of the biggest threats to their continued existence. Hell, almost 5% of the population today either has HIV/AIDS.

As far as the nurses go, look, it's just cause this is the new flashy disease, and they've been listening to the hype and are of course scared of it. Nurses are already trained on how to take care of patients with AIDS; if you take the precautions as normal then your fine. Let me say it this way; you cannot catch Ebola simply by being in the same room as someone with it.

Yeah, well whats one suppose to say when Nurses are reporting some hospitals don't even have enough protective gear.

But as long as it's the Africans that's fine right? You did say you favored letting it burn out in Africa right?

Your approach will make problems here more likely. Not less.

Ebola has "burned out in Africa" many times, dating back to the 1970s. There have been dozens of outbreaks over the years, that have died down after a period of time.
It's not progress to spread it to other countries though, that have never had it before.

Yeah, well whats one suppose to say when Nurses are reporting some hospitals don't even have enough protective gear.

Enough for what?

Never miss a chance to discredit the president do you? I'll sat this, at least you're consistent.

Obama is responsible for his appointments. He is tasked with appointing competent people, you would think he would have gotten lucky by now and appointed someone who knew what the hell they were doing.

Case in point...the following interview between Matt Lauer and CDC Director Dr Tom Friedman..

Ya might want to shuffle those tarot cards again.....I'm not freaking out at all. He landed in Washington DC.

Course maybe you should let those know there......ya might even get to a few before the CDC does. Just sayin!

Like the Kevin Bacon six degrees of separation game, rightwingers are always two steps away from blaming Obama for any problem, in this case a viral outbreak in West Africa. Perfect rightwingery.

Another 30 percent said their hospital has insufficient supplies of eye protection and fluid-resistant gowns.....snip~

Looks like enough to go around they are saying.

What do you reckon they don't throw their gloves out, change the bedding, or take any of the universal precautions that any hospital or ambulance does in modern civilized world?

Oh I am sure they do.....as I am sure there is a Bio hazard bag for them to dump their stuff in. Do you think they wore masks when the guys was sneezing, or coughing or vomiting?

Do you think they knew to disinfect the Ambulance for any other patients they picked up?

Do you have any idea how staggeringly unlikely it is that someone would get infected from that water?

The virus can survive for several hours on surfaces, so any object contaminated with bodily fluids, like a latex glove or a hypodermic needle, may spread the disease. According to the C.D.C., the virus can survive for a few hours on dry surfaces like doorknobs and countertops. But it can survive for several days in puddles or other collections of body fluid at room temperature. Bleach solutions can kill it......snip~

What never seen kids play in puddles? Kick water around, walk thru them and stomp their feat sending water splashing all around. Not like that could happen in todays 21st century world.....huh?

We need to spend money for updated equipment and training.

How do conservatives propose we pay for it? Tax cuts for the rich and the Laffer curve?

Yes, that's what they signed up for.

You haven't been in the military?
I suppose the military-hating Marxist on the golf course had to send four thousand troops to ebola country instead of preventing people from ebola country from entering the US.

Who signed up to protect the nation so the marxist could send them, to a foreign country, not to defend the nation but to get sick and possibly to die unnecessarily?

Why? You know it's a risk when you sign up - historically in wars, disease kills more soldiers than battle.

I did in the last great pandemic during WWI with the first cases reported in Ft. Devens, Massachusetts among young healthy troops. The crazy thing about that flu strain was it used the victims strong immune system to work against them.

I really don't know what conservatives would think.....but now if it is me. I would go with Taxing the Left 10 times more. So they could appreciate all they had. Just sayin.

They always disinfect them. Moreover, if the guy was coughing a lot they would have put masks on. Finally, even if they were exposed, they would not pass the disease onto anyone else until they were symptomatic.

This fearmongering over ebola is ridiculous. People need to HTFU and quit being irrationally afraid of everything.

Not yet! :)

I think it is time for the welfare recipients to do their share.

Every conservative is just two steps away in any discussion from the welfare queen talking point.

Man, this issue has brought out the crazies.

Well let me Ask you just how they did this disinfect this ambulance.....if they left the hospital and went out on another call. Then returned later to pick Duncan up a second time?

See I have family member that worked as Firehouse Paramedic. So I kind of know their drill.

Oh and all this BS about whining about Fear and being afraid.....Can you explain why the CDC and the WHO are calling this a Major epidemic?

What do you think about these Nurses and what they are saying? Should managers of hospitals be listening? Didn't the CDC say American Hospitals are ready and able to deal with this?

I think that if we are getting good information from the CDC, and assuming that it really isn't spread by means other than contact, and assuming that nurses really are practicing sound and normal universal precautions, then there shouldn't be a problem, and their complaints aren't legitimate. That being said, I have no great faith in the CDC, as it is essentially a governmental institution, and I don't trust them to put public safety over protecting their own asses.

Yeah, well whats one suppose to say when Nurses are reporting some hospitals don't even have enough protective gear.

If it's Ebola we're talking about, 99% of the hospitals in this country will never see a case of Ebola. And it be very cost inefficient anyways to have every hospital in the US equipped to handle Ebola anyways. Best thing to do is handle Ebola outbreaks from a Regional perspective, with the regional health centers coordinating to get the rare cases of Ebola that pops up to the proper hospitals. Now if you're talking about a lack of masks and such, that's a broader issue though that isn't exclusive to the Ebola "crisis". In truth, we're not as ready for a real pandemic, and that's what we should be getting ready for, not Ebola...

Dang! Even the thought that they went right back out to do their job and take care of other people within in hours.

We know how they took extra precaution in cleaning up at the apartment where the guy got sick. Ever use a power washer? Splashes on everything in the general area, anyone could walk in all the water draining away and these guys weren't protected. Yet the White House assured us we had nothing to worry about.

You blaming it on the Whitehouse? How about Texas. Since when does Perry do anything the Whitehouse wants anyway?

Gotta love how the Indian chick is standing right next to the runoff.

It may be treated with bleach though. I can add soap to my powerwasher.
