North Texas Patient Tested for Ebola Virus

Maybe the Mexican gov't should curtail flights from Texas.

Maybe we should advertise that there is an Ebola outbreak in the US and maybe the illegals will decide they would rather stay home.

Multiculturalism is the undoing of western civilization. How many horrors of The third world have been brought to the US that were unheard of only a few decades ago? Terrorism, Ebola, Mexican cartels, enterovius d68.. our not too distant ancestors realized that we jeopardize our own quality of life by trying to improve the lives of every person from the third world. That's why we had immigration quotas for many years.
It's time to end ALL immigration, legal or illegal, not that our laws are respected anyway. We have over 300,000,000 people already, how many more do we need??

The estimate is that about 200,000-400,000 people are going to contract Ebola in Africa this year. Every expert in the field has concluded it will get to the US. It has nothing to do with Customs. Like a typical conservative you're deluding yourself. So we better prepare to treat it here.

Now, what party slashed the budget of the CDC? Say it loud, Fenton, say it loud!

How about raising taxes on the rich to pay for preventing a huge epidemic. It appear all the conservative talking points are collapsing on this one.

The center asks Customs and Border Protection, which stamps passports, to watch for ill travelers and notify the C.D.C. if it finds them.

“They are our eyes and ears,” said Christine Pearson, a spokeswoman at the agency’s headquarters in Atlanta.

BTW, Obama said it was unlikely that we would have Ebola in the US.

Unlikely to even have one case.

You couldn't be more wrong. We wouldn't have many of the fruits, vegetables, spices, etc. not to mention the geniuses like Einstein, Tesla, Von Brown, etc. etc. without contributions from other cultures. The list is a long one. You're dense and xenophobic if you can't see that.

I think when someone points to the failures of Multiculturalism they're specifically talking about the cultures that fundamentally contradict our own values and beliefs.

And yes, multiculturalism in that sense is a HUGE mistake.

The CDC's budget was $11.4 BILLION in the 2014FY. Are you telling me they can't prepare a response on that?

It's a big ass planet and there are a lot of diseases.

Is there a reason you decided to make up a budget number?

Yes, because Ebola just popped up out of nowhere in the last 2 years.

No, it didn't exist back in the 70s or 80s or 90s ( it so existed )

This outbreak is unique, if you haven't noticed. But ostrichlike, you can stick your head in the sand and blame Obama or libruls, if you want.

Meanwhile physicians and health care experts know that this outbreak will reach the US, and that it needs to be meet with a fully funded CDC, not one hobbled by idiotic budget hawk conservatives (who by the way shut down a couple of CDC research labs in one of their Obamaphobe witchhunts).

Moreover, our anemic health care system, which still doesn't cover millions of Americans and still charges outrageous amount to keep people AWAY from doctors, has come back to haunt us. Europe doesn't have this problem. People get sick, they go to a doctor. In rightwing America, people get sick and conservatives have set up perverse incentive to keep them away from doctors -- copays and deductibles and spector of losing work time.

It's rather ironic, I think, that if this epidemic hits the US hard, all the conservative shibboleths about the free market and health care and going to make Americans incredibly angry at the freaks that prevent a single payer system.

Fear of modernity, scapegoating - the natural conservative freak response to a health care issue.

No he didn't say that, but don't let me interrupt your Obamaphobia eructation. It's all you have to say on the topic, like all conservatives.

Meantime, health care experts know this matter will take billions to deal with. Hopefully Americans will finally realize how foolish they were to listen to stupid conservative talking points about private enterprise in health care, vote out the GOP and finally get universal single payer.

Just read it and it doesn't exactly say want you or Matthews says it does.

First and foremost, I want the American people to know that our experts, here at the CDC and across our government, agree that the chances of an Ebola outbreak here in the United States are extremely low. We’ve been taking the necessary precautions, including working with countries in West Africa to increase screening at airports so that someone with the virus doesn’t get on a plane for the United States. In the unlikely event that someone with Ebola does reach our shores, we’ve taken new measures so that we’re prepared here at home. We’re working to help flight crews identify people who are sick, and more labs across our country now have the capacity to quickly test for the virus. We’re working with hospitals to make sure that they are prepared, and to ensure that our doctors, our nurses and our medical staff are trained, are ready, and are able to deal with a possible case safely.

So what's your answer? Become an isolated nation? From what I've seen foreign cultures tend to adapt our norms after a generation or two anyway.

Never let a crisis go to waste.

We shouldn't let people who have been in the hot zone into the country.

I wouldn't exactly call West Africa at this point a "hot zone". You're exaggerating just how communicable Ebola is...

Look who's talking. A disease breaks out in Africa, and the Right goes immediately into anti-science, xenophobia mode.

I know that actually spending money on equipment and training to fight a disease is alien to the superstitious minds of conservatives, but you're going to have to get used to it. Tax cuts for the rich won't cure ebola, just like they didn't cure the Bush recession. Conservative delusion time is over.

A "healthcare issue"?? Are you kidding? Birth control is a healthcare issue... Ebola is a plague that kills 70% of those who contract it, by means of violent internal hemorrhaging. Liberals are not sane people.

I specially said "third world" twice in reference to who I was talking about. Einstein was not from the third world, Von Braun was from nobility, and Tesla wasn't what you'd consider third world either. Now Obama, he does have third world roots, and look how wonderful that's turning out to be.

Hyperventillate much?

I think responding to a disease can reasonable be called a health care issue. It requires money. I hope you're for raising taxes to deal with it. But I bet you aren't.

How is single payer health care going to stop/prevent an epidemic?

3,000 people have died. I'd call that a hot zone.

The $11.3 billion budget isn't enough to prevent Ebola from entering my country, so what makes you think raising taxes is going to do anything?
How much money will it take to make the CDC do it's job competently? 25 billion? 100 billion?

The problem isn't a financial one, it's; incompetency, apathy (you fulfill this in droves), and ignorance.

OK, since I didn't read my own link tell me what Obama said when he said "In the unlikely event that someone with Ebola does reach our shores"

On the day the Dallas Ebola story broke, Obama was in Chicago holding a democrat fundraiser dinner, where seats were $50,000 a piece. He doesn't care what happens to the average American. Michael Savage is calling him Barack Obola, lol.
