That's true, but it should not be dismissed either.
Americans are so enamored of equality that they would rather be equal in slavery than unequal in freedom.

More precise weaponry will do that.

As bad giving the arms and training for free? These mooks don't want us involved, but they sure like our toys. I say sell em all they want and let them have at each other. After all we want to help them help themselves. They get poorer and less numerous and eradicate all but the hardiest of the rats. Then eventually they have to rebuild. Otherwise they live in dirt poor ****hole. Will some of the weapons be used against us. Probably, but then again they are being used against us now and we give them away. This way we at least get the benefit of making some money for our trouble before biting us in the ass. As of now we just get bit in the ass regardless. If they have to expend their resources to get the weapons in the first place, that means there is less to expend on coming after us when there are bigger more immediate fish to fry. As for when they are done frying fish in their neighborhood, we can cross that bridge then, or burn it.

I realize that America's critics will be quick to point out that at times we too have failed to live up to our ideals; that America has plenty of problems within its own borders. This is true. In a summer marked by instability in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, I know the world also took notice of the small American city of Ferguson, Missouri -- where a young man was killed, and a community was divided. So, yes, we have our own racial and ethnic tensions. And like every country, we continually wrestle with how to reconcile the vast changes wrought by globalization and greater diversity with the traditions that we hold dear.

But we welcome the scrutiny of the world -- because what you see in America is a country that has steadily worked to address our problems, to make our union more perfect, to bridge the divides that existed at the founding of this nation. America is not the same as it was 100 years ago, or 50 years ago, or even a decade ago. Because we fight for our ideals, and we are willing to criticize ourselves when we fall short. Because we hold our leaders accountable, and insist on a free press and independent judiciary. Because we address our differences in the open space of democracy -- with respect for the rule of law; with a place for people of every race and every religion; and with an unyielding belief in the ability of individual men and women to change their communities and their circumstances and their countries for the better. Saying we have problems is not "apologizing".
Are you saying we dont have any problems?

Read the article here: Obama leaves UN a changed statesman

The world has changed a lot in the last year and the USA and it's allies all over this planet have a lot of threats to deal with in the Middle East and in Europe and Africa.

The USA can't deal with all of those threats on its own, It will need the help of its allies.

    What do you think?
I think he is right. I know I do not want us to continue to be the policeman of the world. I think our allies need to pick up a lot of slack. I think if something is happening in Europe's back yard, then Europe ought to take the lead and the heavy lifting. I realize there are places around the globe where we do not have that many allies, where we may just have to lead. But those allies of ours, if whatever is taking place in their backyard, then it should be up to them. We can help, but we should not jump into every little fray or ruckus that happens when we have allies closer to that ruckus or action.
This Reform Party member thinks it is high past time that we start electing Americans to congress and the presidency who put America first and their political party further down the line. But for way too long we have been electing Republicans and Democrats who happen to be Americans instead of Americans who happen to be Republicans and Democrats.

    Greetings, Pero.

Agreed! Who would come to our aid if we needed assistance, other than Canada? Hopefully, that will never happen, but I suppose it could. And I sometimes question what France is doing. It just seems like they are always agitating to get us involved in things, and while they are helping with eliminating ISIS, the threat is really in their own back yard, as you point out, so it's certainly in their own best interest to join in! Are the Eurozone countries and the UK helping?

Evening Pol, it was announced today on the news the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands and Denmark has joined the coalition. But only will bomb in Iraq and not Syria.

Understandable - they have Russia to consider if they get involved in Syria. My daughter is visiting from Texas, so I've been out of the news loop for the past few days. Thanks for the update.....
