Tribal chief: No FedEx until Redskins change team name

You still haven't explained how any of this harms anyone, you just keep repeating it over and over like that means something. It's okay, we know you have no answers, your philosophy is utterly absurd.

I explained how stereotypes marginalize (both "positive" and negative). I explained how marginalization harms society.

What more is there to understand?

That's exactly what I explained in the post you quoted, and is accepted by every sociologist and person of some reasoning ability. It's really obvious. I don't know why you cannot grasp it.
No, you did not explain anything. There was nothing provided to grasp. You simply restated the *what*, not the deeper effects of *how* or *why*, and even the *what* is nebulous.

Based on your so-far inability to explain yourself, I see two possibilities here...

1) You're being argumentative just for the sake of being argumentative, which, given your history here at DP is entirely likely, or...
2) You simply grabbed onto something that you think sounds good, because it kind of touches on what you want to believe, but you are utterly incapable of articulating it because you don't even understand it yourself.

No, you STATED that it harms society. You still haven't shown that it actually harms society. Just repeating it doesn't make it so.

Stereotypes harm society by spreading lies and making people less human. Stereotypes, even those with an element of accuracy, are inaccurate lies because no group of people is completely the same. They make people less human because we tend to perceive people as their stereotype rather than as a "regular person." Consciously we may strive to treat people without prejudice but entrenched stereotypes often drive our actual behavior.

An example of the damage from a "positive stereotype": the employer of an Asian employee assigns him to accounting tasks because he believes the stereotype that all Asians are good at math. If that employee is not good at math his actual best talents will not be used and the employer will not have the best person doing the job.

Good for them.

FFS you still call natives "Indians", a name given them by a sailor lost at sea and starving who thought he was 10,000 miles east of where he relly was. No one on reserves was born in India so it's really time to lose the bigoted crap like "Redskins" and "Braves".
Native americans don't call their warriors "braves"?

Doesn't really apply to a sorts team name, though, since nothing is being asked of those who are allegedly being harmed.

Also, that would be a pretty dumb employer whom I doubt would stay in business very long.

I'm not arguing any of those points, absolutely they got screwed over by the government which refused to honor their agreements. That's part of history. Now it's time to move on. Getting kicked in the teeth in the early to mid 1800s doesn't explain why some of these tribes are still on the same land, doing nothing with it today. It's long, long, long past time to move on. We can't blame them for their treatment nearly 200 years ago, we certainly can blame them for how they've chosen to live their lives over the past half-century.

Getting kicked in the teeth explains why there are so many issues in the community. Imagine the land you use to own, which was stolen by Government, sold to others but it's worth $100 billion plus in current dollars and you not one penny of that over the last 100 years. For the Sioux (Lakota people) you are talking about $18,000 a year per person (55,000 living on reservations) for the last 100 years, or if the Government gave today finally paid up on all forest timber, gold, oil and other natural resources from the Sioux land it stole, today ($100 billion).. those 55,000 Sioux living on reservations would all get a check for $1.8 million.

$1.8 million changes alot for people and this is my point. You think things have gotten better over the last 50 years for those who live on reservations and this is the furthest from the truth. High rates of poverty, ****ty education, horrible housing, horrible health care and at the end of the day... it's Uncle Sam's job to provide these things to them. If you are getting poor education, horrible housing, and crappy health care you are screwed even before you start. Even the poorest Americans get better service.

Forbes did an article on what I am talking about.

To this very day tribes are getting kicked in the teeth. So your high and mighty attitude of what they should do ignores the facts. Facts are Uncle Sam to this very day screws them over and keeps them in poverty.

This is the way to go about it. Not through the government getting involved. If you want to change something do what this guy is doing and hit them where it hurts, the pockets. There is nothing wrong with a tribal leader calling on its people to do this. I cannot see how ANYBODY can say he is out of line. He is a native american that is uncomfortable with the name, and instead of whining to Congress or the President to do something, he is being proactive and forcing change on his own.

that'll be hard because UPS is so much better than FedEx. Supporting Chick fli A is easy because its delicious.

Chick-fil-a is outcompeted in its own niche by the Burger King Classic Chicken Sandwich and Wendy's Spicy Chicken. Even McDonalds has a better chicken sandwich value for dollar with the McChicken.

And their fries are mediocere.

I disagree with his position, but I agree with everything you say regarding how he is going about it. If he can pull it off, more power to him. I believe it to be more of a faux outrage, but at the same time if it does get changed I won't lose any sleep over it.

I personally hope the Redskins never change their name. They have had that name for over 80 years.....The PC police must not win this issue.........

Kittens will die.
That is cataclysmic.
As a tribute, Washington should re-name themselves THE WASHINGTON ******S.
I'm certain that name won't cause any controversy.

I swear on everything Indians are pricks...... They have tax-free everything...

Thanks progressives for corrupting the damn Indians.........
