The reason the announcement was made today, Obama plans to a nominate another politicized, incompetent AG who probably will have a chip on his or her's shoulder and who's sole mission will to be to protect Obama as he continues to defecate on the Constitution.

The scuttlebutt earlier this year was that Holder was planning to resign early next year (2015) But with the threat of the GOP taking the Senate, Obama needs to get his new politicized AG confirmed in the Senate ASAP while Harry Reid is still in charge of doing what Obama orders him to do.

Like his boss, a guy who ascended past his level of incompetence. Holder worked for main justice for years. He was a solid DOJ attorney
with the public integrity section starting right before Carter became president. Reagan appointed him a judge in DC where he did a fine job.

Clinton made him a US Attorney for DC. he had a good reputation among other US attorney offices then. In 1997 he was elevated to a deputy AG position-once again, he had a good reputation as a straight shooter.

at the end of the clinton administration, he got caught in the mess of clinton's pardon of Marc Rich

He served briefly as acting AG under Bush-again no issues

in private practice during the Bush administration, he was at prestigious law firm Covington and Burling. He wrote or signed an amicus brief supporting the DC Gun ban-the first evidence of a real political agenda.

Under Obama as AG, his reputation for being a non partisan career attorney came to a crashing halt. most of us who knew him when he worked under Clinton were sort of surprised.

I would note, while I have no use for the Obama administration, Holder served the USA very well for many years and that should be taken into account rather than damning him for being part of an incompetent and perhaps corrupt administration

Just because the U.S. Attorney General resigns doesn't mean the Department of Justice wouldn't be obligated by law to release the requested documents. The only thing Holder's resignation may hinder is having him provide further testimony under oath without issuing him a subpoena and that's only after he leaves office.

What's the big deal. Holder has done what AG's have done since the days of Ed Meese. He protects the President or covers for him and those in his administration. Whomever replaces him will be just another AG along these lines. There is a reason that even in the most minor scandal or incident calls go out for an independent council or investigator to be appointed. AG's think their job is to protect and defend the administration, not investigate and find out the truth and bring charges if applicable.
 
I know there's one theory out there that is all about a future Supreme Court nomination.

While what you say about his past may be true, nobody forced Holder to call the country a bunch of cowards nor did anybody force him to do what he has done during this administration.

Holder must take responsibility for his own actions.
