Hundreds of Colorado students protest history curriculum[W:234]

Re: Hundreds of Colorado students protest history curriculum

Not if it's based on stupidity, and interfering with the rights of others. I'd see more evidence of patriotism from someone wearing a military uniform than anything I saw from the OWS protesters. There are many far higher forms of patriotism, but perhaps that's what they're teaching grade students these days.

Standing in dissent of the government is one of the very founding principles of the Republic and one of the greatest duties of any Free Man. You cannot maintain a Free Republic without doing so.

Re: Hundreds of Colorado students protest history curriculum

Treason =/= Patriotism therefor a traitors death is not an act of patriotism.

You really are terrible with words.

I didn't say that treason was the same as patriotism, you have to take to lying now?

Re: Hundreds of Colorado students protest history curriculum

I am not here to help you understand clearly written statements.

Ah, so you don't actually want to backup your claim, you just want to scream "Censorship!" and let that be the whole of your argument?

This turn of events is not entirely surprising.

Re: Hundreds of Colorado students protest history curriculum

He's doing the same thing with the school boards policy about censoring the curriculum

Uggg....yeah it's looking that way.

Re: Hundreds of Colorado students protest history curriculum

Hah!! You said a person's death "can go against the rights and liberties of the individual; which would make it traitorous."

If they are a traitor then they are not a patriot.

Dying for your country is the greatest form of patriotism because it requires the greatest sacrifice of self. People can sacrifice their life for treason too, but that doesn't make it a form of patriotism, it makes it a form of treason.

Re: Hundreds of Colorado students protest history curriculum

Uggg....yeah it's looking that way.

Confidentially, I don't see your tag team going any better then your hapless solo efforts.

Yeah...you're missing a "not". Dying for your country is not the greatest form of patriotism....

Well when you learn to read, perhaps things will go more smoothly.

Re: Hundreds of Colorado students protest history curriculum

:doh

With these students standing up like that, it shows not all hope is lost.

It's a sad day when HS kids protest patriotism.

Re: Hundreds of Colorado students protest history curriculum

Well I did say that some protests may not be patriotic in the least.

Allowing them is no form of patriotism, typically you can't "not allow" them without engaging in treason and tyranny. The standing up, the voice opinion, the dissent against government action...those are acts of patriotism in certain realizations of the act. Following the law...not so much.

So, is the administration engaging in "treason" or "tyranny" when it hustles protesters into "free speech zones"? Because outside of the security questions, I think that practice stinks. I didn't like it when Bush did it, and don't like it now when "the One" does it...But let's be clear, Not all protests are "patriotic"....

Oh, I find free speech zones to clearly be an act of treason and tyranny. Free speech zone is America, not fenced off little areas miles away from political conventions in order for the politicians to play down protest and make themselves look good for the press.

On that we can agree. However, on this topic, conservatives wanting to not foster an anti American message in text books written by jokers like Ward Churchill, and approved by boards headed by characters like Bill Ayres is totally reasonable in my mind...That some snot nosed little socialist anarchists don't like it matters not to me.

Re: Hundreds of Colorado students protest history curriculum

It's a sad day when HS kids protest patriotism.

Some may claim those who engaged in the Boston Tea Party were patriots yet others may say they engaged in civil disobedience.

What do you think?

Re: Hundreds of Colorado students protest history curriculum

Well, there you have it. You originally tried to defend an idiotic quote by equating it with a perfectly reasonable quote. When backed into a corner with the fact the the two quotes are actually different you now defend the idiotic quote on its own merits by agreeing with its central premise (which is mind numbingly stupid).

You are at least logically consistent now, albeit morally indefensible.

Who has sacrificed more for their country, the dead soldier of the angry protester? You say protester.

Yes, but we do have to hear it all. America is great, the foundations of the Republic are deserving of proliferation and defense. But we've done some messed up things, and we need to know we did messed up things, acknowledge it so that we can push forward to a better tomorrow. It wasn't all rainbows and fresh baked apple pies, and sugar coating it just to sugar coat patriotism is many times an act of fascism, and a way to get people to not think about an issue.

I'd rather the whole truth be told and for the individuals to make up their own minds.

They weren't patriots as they weren't defending a country at that point. They were rebels, which are not patriots.

Are you done lying about my quotes now?

Your last conclusion is also erroneous, can you make one, just 1, honest post?

Re: Hundreds of Colorado students protest history curriculum

Would they have been rebels if they were being taught to just respect authority?

Let me ask you this, are you for a "small" government? If yes, how do you think you are going to be able to achieve that without a fight? Because that ship has long sailed away. If you are for a large government, then I can see where you would applaud the efforts to downplay civil disobedience.

Which is why I really don't get why conservatives have this platform of small government yet want to write history books that teach the opposite of that happening. Maybe as a conservative you can help me understand?

Re: Hundreds of Colorado students protest history curriculum

That's precisely what the school board is trying to prevent with this, the existing anti-American bias. Fire any teachers who walked out.

I think neither anti nor pro American bias should be taught. Just teach the kids the facts without any bias either way and let them make their own conclusions on historic events.

Re: Hundreds of Colorado students protest history curriculum

And now, when cornered, start calling people liars. Textbook.

So, let's start again. Who has displayed more patriotism, someone who died defending their country or someone who protested an injustice?

Sorry AM, the small government argument is out of place here, this is a local action, the small government thing has always applied to the federal government.

Re: Hundreds of Colorado students protest history curriculum

You're the one who tried to claim by misquoting me that I had said patriotism and treason were the same thing. Which is a lie, so you can stop that, it would be greatly appreciated.

So, let's start again. Who has displayed more patriotism, someone who died defending their country or someone who protested an injustice?

It would depend on circumstance of death and protest. A protest could indeed be a greater display of patriotism than dying for the government. As stated before, death for the government isn't innately an act of patriotism. Nor are all protests acts of patriotism, ergo it is quite possible that dying for the government is a greater display of patriotism than protest.

I'd agree with you there if that were at all humanly possible - it's not. Knowing that, I'd rather the bias be towards America rather than against it.

So you think that there is some block to people getting the information about this country? We have at this time more information available to us than ever before in history, I don't think that some anti America message need be promoted in our schools.

Tell me what do you think is the purpose of focusing on the bad is for? I mean, typically in your history from what I know of you posting here, I wouldn't say that you are pro America in the sense that you tend to focus on what is wrong with this country more so than what you see positive...So, do you think that people walking around constantly believing that America is a country founded on atrocity, and ignoble means provides for a continued American greatness? Or is the goal to tear down this country a notch or two?
