Quite frankly, I can give a **** how much Native American you are. You implied reservations are wonderful places (we were so nice to them after we conquered them! Look we gave em reservations!) when in reality they're rotten ****holes.

Take with some salt, but having been to these reservations I can with confidence, say much of this is true.

most issues are best fought with intellect rather than waiving signs everywhere, but I do agree that for this particular situation they went about it perectly.

Truthfully, however, this could violate anti-truancy policies. I think that should be heeded.

The relative lenience from school officials was probably more of a blessing for students.

This is the important stuff. We canít get lost in discrimination. We canít get lost in B.S. We canít get lost tearing each other down. I want to make a point here that no matter what you look like, where you come from, how you worship, who you love, how you identify, and yeah, how you run, that if you have good public policy ideas, if you are well qualified for office, bring those ideas to the table, because this is your America, too. This is our commonwealth of Virginia, too.

Just to substanciate calling your claim a "lie", here's what the article says about what that school board member said:

She said she’s not trying to eliminate the facts of U.S. history but shares the concerns conservatives nationally have outlined – that AP History casts some parts of history in a negative light, such as the bombing of Hiroshima and slavery

Nowhere does she object to the teaching of the history of slavery in the United States.

Why should it be biased towards America if America was wrong? Whatever happened to 'those that forget the past are doomed to repeat it?'

I read alot of books on history and most are compilations of research and opposing sides/perspectives etc. All are presented and weighed. There's no reason that history cant be presented more 'openly' and factually in schools.

I do agree with you tho, it's impossible to be completely unbiased.

I'm with the students on this one. Complete bs on the part of that school board. No curriculum should be biased or censored, just straight facts.

I'm with you and the students on this one. History should be taught with as little bias as possible. Easier said than done, no doubt, but when the school board ACTIVELY AND PUBLICLY admit to wanting to slant what is taught to achieve a given agenda, no matter how well-intentioned, we shouldn't stand for it.

    According to the NY Times:

The teachersí union, whose members forced two high schools to close Friday by calling in sick, has been in continual conflict with the new board; the board, in turn, has drawn praise from Americans for Prosperity-Colorado, a conservative group affiliated with the Koch family foundations. In April, Dustin Zvonek, the groupís director, wrote in an op-ed that the boardís election was an ďexciting and hopeful moment for the county and the school district.Ē

It seems you are correct. This didn't start with the kids deciding to protest.

I forget...are they on campus or off? And truancy may have a definition...such as doctor's appt or with a parent's permission. I dont know but it seems that the kids are certainly going to learn something during this process.
