US Airstrikes Under Way in Syria[W:354]

Re: US Airstrikes Under Way in Syria

What happened to "in time of war, we stand behind the commander-in-chief"?

Shame on the partisan speech above. Both Bush and Obama committed blunders in Iraq, and both contributed to the mess we have today. No need to single them out, at this point.

What is important now is to decimate the extremists who have beheaded two Americans, countless other foreigners, and their own people, and will undoubtedly become a threat to our national interests and even our homeland (we don't want a terrorist haven there; they will end up committing 9/11-like attacks here).

So, let's stand behind our pilots and sailors who are bombing those f....ers, and put down the partisan divisions, will you?

Now, if we can bomb them sufficiently and several other countries in the region including several Arab states put boots on the ground, we can win this without further risking our troops. If it doesn't work, then I'm sure there will be reassessment and American boots will go in.

For now, let's just support our CiC and our brave pilots, and hope that none of our aircraft is brought down.

Me, I love America and put it *way* above partisan politics. Shame on all Americans who don't think like me.

Outstanding post.

Re: US Airstrikes Under Way in Syria

So you openly admit that Mr. Obama is not worried about his popularity and politics with how he is conducting his strategy.
This is as it should be--too bad your side doesn't see it that way .

I admit nothing of the sort, have you read this thread?

Re: US Airstrikes Under Way in Syria

The WH has stated it wont seek permission, despite Syria's requests. That was a few weeks back, dont know if anything has changed.

Our enemy operates out of his country.
ISIS is also Assad's enemy.
I doubt the Syrian regime will complain very loudly.

It's amazing how confused and inconsistent these people get. You know, since the time when he was both a Muslim and the member of a Christian church that harbored a hateful priest... for them, the important thing is to bash the president no matter what, regardless of how inconsistent they get while doing it.

So, "the president runs the Iraq situation for political gain... except when it's not for political gain... both occasions being wrong, just because, erm, well, just because it's him."

Re: US Airstrikes Under Way in Syria

This is just unbelievable! Sitting ducks is now what we are! I just heard a few minutes that we're bombing Syria, too - I sure hope we got their permission to do so, because we were warned by the UN....
I heard it was on the border of Syria and Iraq....20 some targets. ???? But even the NYT is reporting a week of bombing in Iraq has done little to nothing.

Re: US Airstrikes Under Way in Syria

I saw no prime time press conference where Obama said we are. We didn't declare war. So you tell me.

Of course we are at war, and you know it. Anything else is semantics, and politics (which of course both parties engage in; the Democrats don't have the monopoly on it). It's kind of risible to make arguments about this. When you send a bunch of jets, Tomahawks, and bombers, and rain them over 30,000 extremists, you or Kerry or Obama or Fox News can call it whatever you want, but it's war. Now, what you are doing is that instead of rallying behind our troops and our CiC as any conservative used to do in the past, all that you want is to assign blame and find irrelevant points to criticize. Shame on you.

Stick a sock in it. One can not stand behind anything unless it can respect it. When you have a Commander in Chief who has shown himself to be so incompetent as the one now serving, only a fool would support such a thing.

So why can't the white house get its story straight? Any why wont Obama send in troops when thats whats needed to win the war?

Sign me up, and call me a fool, then. In the past such "fools" were called patriots. Yes, I *will* stand behind our troops and our CiC when we are fighting foreign enemies, regardless of how foolish you think it is.

The stikes in Iraq were for politics-Obama is taking a beating and his party has an election in 6 weeks. It was never intended to solve the problem or defeat the enemy. If its not a solution in Iraq, it wont be in Syria.

Obama is failing like its cool.

Re: US Airstrikes Under Way in Syria

Good Lord. President Ding Dong is now arming the same "soldiers" he called a fantasy a few weeks ago?

Re: US Airstrikes Under Way in Syria

Obama's red lines wont get many complaints either.

Non-sequitur much?
Look, I can see you're flailing around here.
Why don't you take a break, get your thoughts in order, and criticize Obama for something else.
I'm sure you can think of another issue.

Re: US Airstrikes Under Way in Syria

I couldn't care less what the WH calls it, since like I said it's semantics and politics and in such times I don't really pay attention to partisan politics.
About ground troops, it's not like there won't be any. There are Kurds, Iraqis, moderate Syrians, and apparently some 10 other countries in this coalition, and even Iran outside of the coalition but already sending people. If we get a good air campaign and other troops do the ground invasions, maybe we'll avoid having to send in our foot soldiers. However, like I said, if it doesn't work, the Pentagon has already mentioned that American troops might be necessary, and I'm confident that there will be adjustments and reassessments.

I think ISIS is not as strong as a regular national army. If their equipment, training centers, command centers, etc., get bombed to oblivion, then it could be relatively easy for the troops coming from multiple points to just go in and slaughter them.

So, instead of playing partisan politics, let's wait and see what happens, shall we?

A patriot is a person who vigorously supports their country and is prepared to defend it against enemies or detractors. By that definition this administration hasn't lived up to it. You don't leave your borders open for people that want to do you harm to get in and still claim to be a patriot. You don't let those among us willing to engage in traitorous fighting and then return to this country where they pose a threat to the citizens and live up to what a patriot is defined to be.

And this apply to me, how? I'm not a member of this administration, and I don't agree with all its policies.
I will support our troops and our CiC, though, when we are fighting foreign enemies.

When you support something/someone you condone what they do. I don't know how any logical thinking person using the definition of patriot could condone what this administration has done.

OK. I'm a fool, and incapable of logical thinking. Sure. Thank you for the personal attacks. Now go back to hating the president regardless of what he does or doesn't do (yep, there is a lot of logical thinking in that, right?!?!? Such as, let's deny him authorization to bomb Syria, and then complain that he isn't doing enough against Syria; yeah, right, that's very logical!). Me, I want those extremists decimated, and I'll support any action that will get them killed.

I won't be surprised, if he sends troops to the ground, if the Right immediately switches to condemning it too.

The thing is:

Obama does A = he is wrong.
Obama does the opposite of A = he is wrong.
Obama refrains from doing either A or the opposite of A = he is wrong.

Yep, very logical.

It gets very tiresome.

Re: US Airstrikes Under Way in Syria

Airstrikes have started, lets see if anything substantive comes of it. Knowing Obama this was all show.

Knowing partisan hacks like you he won't ever be able to do anything right.

Re: US Airstrikes Under Way in Syria

I see, hence his "no boots on the ground" comments. Because airstrikes win wars.

And yes, we are at war-with a new enemy-ISIS.

There will be boots on the ground. Just not ours for a change. We can't fight these people's battles forever.

Re: US Airstrikes Under Way in Syria

So is US Conservative happy or sad that Obama is bombing terrorists? It's hard for conservatives to keep their talking points straight nowadays, they've become so virulently Obamaphobic.

Sure wish they would make up their minds. They blast him for not doing anything and when he does they blast him for that.

Re: US Airstrikes Under Way in Syria

Its pretty straight forward, if Obama hadn't lost the peace in Iraq for his personal political benefit-we wouldn't be here now.

So while he needs to clean up his mess-that mess is THERE because of our incompetent president.

And we now need to clean it up.

Too complex for you?

Actually your explanation is too simplistic and partisan. The American people wanted out and it was a campaign promise to get us out and partially why he was elected. The former president already had the timeline set up. We trained the Iraqis and did our best to help them get their act together for over a decade. It's not Obama's fault Al Maliki disenfranchised the sunnies and kurds and some of these people don't have the courage to fight for their country.

Re: US Airstrikes Under Way in Syria

Good Lord. President Ding Dong is now arming the same "soldiers" he called a fantasy a few weeks ago?

Yup. And while he wouldn't strike Assad in Syria last year without a vote-he's fine doing it now-because a vote would hurt his party and might be voted down.

That said, I have to give props to our military. The fact that they pulled this off apparently without casualties (even after over a week's worth of heads up from Obama to ISIS) is remarkable. In addition, these strikes saw the first combat use of the F22. Our military men and women are so good we sometimes take for granted the outstanding work they do.

Re: US Airstrikes Under Way in Syria

It wasn't unforeseen. Iraq AND Obama's generals warned him...and it came true.
This is what happens when we elect weak leaders.

Not totally true. The speed of which the ISIS blitzkrieg manifested itself took a lot of experts by surprise.
