Security breached: Intruder gets into White House

No security system is 100% inpenetrable.

That excuse might be remotely acceptable for an incredibly detailed, well financed and sophisticated attempt to intrude by an ultra-well trained force.

But a guy jumping over a fence and just running through the front door?

Come on now.

Here's the thing. They knew this individual from one report I read, and knew he had mental issues but didn't think he was dangerous. It's known he was an 18 year vet and had deployed three times to Iraq. Perhaps being that most USSS personel are former military, and the fact they felt he was harmless, is why they hesitated to use deadly force.

Oh yeah, because I'm sure they never could see something happening from a man with mental issues coming that close to the president.

As many false alarms as there's been due to unexplained parcels in front of the White House, I'm surprised they haven't tried to extend the perimeter to the Potomac.

It wasn't anticipated he would get that close. And I admit they screwed up.

Yes they screwed up. Next time they need to shoot to kill and ask questions later and we can have the media crucify them for killing a veteran with mental issues. They can't win.

I wonder if their supervisor is a prime example of the Peter Principal. It happens in police departments.

It will probably happen.

Sounds like if I was a terrorist I would be watching this with interest.

The damn thing is right in the middle of urban sprawl adjacent to ghetto. Crazy place for a Whitehouse anymore.

Not the same thing and you know it. I wasn't aware of any illegals wanting to get a job at the whitehouse are you?

I was speaking about the illegal immigration issue.

Precisely, and this has what to do with the OP? Not a goddam thing, as with the rest of your posts.

I saw the videos of Morning Joe. It amazes me how close this guy got. And an unlocked door, too.

The President of the United States deserves the highest level of protection of any person in this country. What's happening with the Secret Service lately? They aren't what they once were.

This issue isn't Democrat or Republican contrary to how yourself, apdst and others are trying to frame it. The issue is one person taking matters into their own hands for the rest of the country. And while I'm sure apdst doesn't wish the President dead (i.e., "If I didn't know better..."), the tenor of his post and those of some others who are so against this man can easily lead one to believe that deep down they secretly wish harm to come to him. I'll use my exchange w/apdst to illustrate (not to pick on him, but just to illustrate my point and because our dialog has become the sub-text of this tread):

Was he being matter of fact? Yes, but he was also being rather glib about the ordeal (at least with this response). So, yeah, it's real easy for me to get the impression that some people could care less if harm would come to the President. I would care not because I'm Black or because I'm a Moderate/Center-Left Democrat, but because I'm an American...period. Doesn't matter my race, doesn't matter my political affiliation. It's because this is my President every bit as much as all the others who came before him during my lifetime from JFK to present-day. I may not have liked some of their policies, but I've never lost sight of the fact that the man in the White House was the person the people and the Electorate choose to lead the country....2000 presidential election notwithstanding. And I've never wished harm to come to any of them not even when Reagan was shot. I prayed for the man's recovery and wished shift justice for the one who shot him. But I never wished any of them dead (...just that the term for one to be over quickly even though I voted for him the 2nd time around).

I'm sorry if I'm not hyped up about it as much as you would like, but that's no excuse for accising me of being disappointed that the president and his family are safe.

The suspect - Omar Gonzalez - is due in court today. No doubt the judge will order a psychiatric evaluation. The Iraq War veteran was previously diagnosed with PTSD and paranoia at Ft. Hood.

I didn't accused you of anything. I merely eluded to the possibility that you might be harboring feelings of disappointment that the breech didn't turn out a certain way. Interesting, however. Throughout this entire dialog your responses have been either turn the issue into a partisan argument, make it more personal or inject race into it. To your credit, you've mentioned how the security breech was unacceptable, but not once have you said "I'm glad the President and the First Family are safe" despite how you've tried real hard to deflect and convince the readers that's truly how you feel.

Interesting...

Liie hell you didn't! Now you're going to try and lie your way out of it?

Whats the big deal. Believe it or not, it happens every once in a while. Ever been on a White House tour? People stray off of those all the time.

Really? People are walking over our fences and the Commander in Chief is encouraging it. Seems rather hypocritical of people to celebrate millions doing the same thing but lose their minds over 1 person doing it.

Yeah sure those things are comparable. And your description isn't ridiculous at all!

Of COURSE they are. They are in fact identical. SO why is everyone so freaked out people with needs are upset they are choosing to schale the WH walls?

Nobody is "encouraging" crossing our borders. Nobody is "celebrating" illegal immigration. Nobody is "losing their minds" over a crazy person climbing the white house fence.

Horse****. People absolutely are encouraging it. They are spreading the word about it. Politicians are going down there to shake and take pictures and show how happy they are they made it. Its embarrassing you think a bunch of people (especially pre teens/early adolescents) have managed to orchestrate this themselves and are so cunning they can outwit the presidents National Security team and AG.

The crazy person should be applauded and given asylum....right?

Fence jumpers are nothing new - what is new is that this guy actually got INTO the White House. Incredible since the SS are on duty 24/7/365 and have been for decades to prevent just such an occurrance from happening. Just think - this guy could have had a dirty bomb or C4 strapped to him or a biological weapon and got INTO the White House because of failed Secret Service. I saw on CNN that there is now a full sweep of the grounds to make sure this guy didn't drop something - like a weapon or biologic. This is a WTF moment.

I work a block from the White House and walk by it every day. I am not surprised in the least. Most days you can't see a soul on the North lawn. A fast runner could be at the back door easily before the guards knew what was happening.

Yep, and we have President Obama to blame for it. I just read in the paper this morning that a bunch of wells have dried up in California and folks are having water trucked in. This kinda stuff didn't happen before that slacker got into office.
(Turns off passive aggressive sarcasm switch)

That doesn't have anything to so with what I wrote.

Who's losing his/her mind over this?
