The IBEW use to have an excellent apprenticeship program, some locals still do while many are just fast tracking people through the program because the actual agenda is to increase union membership which means more political contributions for the Democrats.

With the current administration in the White House I'm very suspicious of any thing related to renewable energy that Obama is involved in. How many billions have already been flushed down the stink hole ?
I understand, and agree with your anger. I'm just sayin' I wish there had been something like this when I got out, would have saved me about ten years struggling....

I had a family to immediately support, couldn't take the time to just go to school...Had to work right away.

You don't have to only go to school on the GI Bill. OJT programs are covered as well. I worked and went to school under the GI Bill.

Well, I guess I should have known you back then...Ah well. I still don't think it is a bad idea...

I can not say how much I love this program! Job training, new jobs, and green energy! This is a great program, and I cannot think why anyone ccouldbe against this!
Another example of brain dead waste of financial resources.....

I'm not angry except for the hundreds of billions of dollars that the Obama administration either threw at the unions or flushed down the toilet.

There was programs available when you got out if you wanted dirty your hands and break a sweat making a living. The construction trades unions all had apprenticeship programs back then as they do today. Electricians and plumbers still make decent money and union electricians and plumbers make excellent wages with excellent bennies.

Now if you want to make a whole lot of money, work on the docks, longshoremen have it made in the shade.

Yeah, like I said, I didn't make the wisest decisions back then...And I have a brand new baby, and needed work fast...Plus I was in a new state, not where I grew up, and didn't really know a whole lot of people...

As for "getting my hands dirty", I'd have to say I have done plenty of that in my life...I worked as a mechanic, and except for a short couple of years selling cars, I have driven truck for 20 years....That's not what I would call an easy job by any measure.

What I have noticed throughout my life time is that vets aren't scared to break a sweat and dirty their hands. Can't say the same with non vets.

I was lucky after I was discharged, America still had an industrial base.

Right on brother...Sounds like we both ended up ok, even if our paths were different...
