Florida State suspends Jameis Winston for first half vs. Clemson

In the wake of the last two weeks in the NFL, walks in Jameis Winston at it again. According to multiple witnesses Jameis Winston, who is not only a Heisman Trophy Winter but also perceived to be (before this incident at least) the #1 Pick of the NFL Draft, hopped onto a table and screamed " F*** her right in the p****". And what is the punishment that he receives? Half a game suspension, not even a whole game for this act! What's worse is that this isn't even the first time that he has been in trouble. There was the incident where he took some crab legs and didn't pay for them, just walked out of the restaurant. But of course the most infamous case was the incident with a young woman where he was accused of sexually assaulting her. Considering that the University is just now being forced to do a proper Title 9 investigation into the matter. Before this though, the local police and the university have been comfortable in letting the issue slide under the rug.

And why are only the slap of the wrist of half a game? Because FSU is regarded (with Jameis Winston at the helm) to be the favorites to win the national title game. Were they to suspend him for any protracted period of time, those title chances would certainly be at stake.

Finally, what makes this situation different from those of the NFL, is that FSU is a public university, which means the people of Florida are paying for this university to let this guy run amok. But so far, I've not heard any of the same level of outrage that I've had for either Ray Rice or Adrian Peterson.

Why is that?

Is there more to this story other than he hopped on to a table to yell out a couple of obscenities?

This is only the backdrop to the much larger Title 9 into the alleged assault that occurred last year. Understand as well that Title 9 was only instituted when the NCAA forced FSU to finally conduct an investigation into the matter (one that should of happened automatically), after local law enforcement gave a lackluster look into the matter. Those investigations are suppose to only take 90 days, however it has been almost a year since the incident took place. More to the point, this guy has been in trouble 6 different times now, and the only punishment FSU is willing to put into place is a half game suspension. FSU is a public university that is suppose to value public learning, but acts like this and them dragging their feet on Title 9 show they care more about keeping their chances at a Football Title, then providing a good education.

Really don't think this belongs under MSM but anyway...

This is a "school" that once cancelled classes for the occasion of a thursday night football game. Seriously. Like any good cult, they will do anything to protect their fix. In this case, the college exists for the football it seems. If you've noticed with the NFL, the football crowd tends to *respect* rapists, wife beaters, and child abuse. What they don't respect, at all, is following the same rule set everyone else has to live by.

Not surprising either that someone who's never been held accountable for his actions would do this. He may as well keep pushing the limits. The real issue worth discussion though when it comes to college athletes, is how they endanger and degrade the real students on campus.

Whether it's barging into dorms in ski masks and starting a gang war (michigan state), setting things on fire (wait, that's real MSU students too), acting like a middle schooler in chicago projects while people are trying to eat peacefully between classes (winston), alleged rape that won't be even investigated for over a year (winston), sucker punching and breaking the jaw of someone in an art fair tent (umich), protecting and enabling a serial kid rapist (penn state)...It all makes me question whether it's even worth allowing CFB to continue.

If they want to behave that way in NFL, it doesn't concern me. They are "the ultimate whores" as a GM once said. They aren't my alma mater.

Meanwhile, florida courts upheld the right of "Satanist" to distribute coloring books to kids in schools.

What percent of FSU's revenues do you think are provided by the State of Florida?

Which is only because they let the Christians do it first. If you want your religion in public schools, you have to open it up to everybody else practicing theirs. Satanists have First Amendment rights too.

On topic, in a move that will no doubt come as a relief to the extreme right, Winston appears to definitely be straight. This incident - really who cares? It's not like he assaulted anyone or beat on a defenseless 4 year old. His other problems are troubling, and if he doesn't clean up his act he won't last in the NFL anyway.

So, I can put you down for being perfectly fine for Satan coloring books being given to 7 year olds...Nice.

Define "extreme right"...Is that someone that disagrees with you or what?

I wonder if he'd have said "**** her right in the ass" if the penalty would have been worse?

First Amendment applies to Satanists too. Sorry, it's the Christians that want to break down the wall of separation, now you're all worried about who gets in. You don't want the rats coming in, don't cut holes in the wall.

In this case that would be those who got their panties in a wad over a gay player putting on a helmet.

Nonsense.

More nonsense....

You're two for two in this post.

Yeah, there is. Winston is a Heisman trophy winner and (was) a Heisman trophy candidate. He's been in trouble since he got to FSU. He is under investigation for rape. There's an entire story behind the fact that no investigation took place until after he won the Heisman and FSU won the national championship. He is a senior and should have a hell of a lot better sense. He doesn't.

Is his behavior a problem? You damned skippy. It's being said that NFL scouts are writing big question marks by his name. I read where Mel Kipper dropped him from 5 to 25 in draft potential. I've also read where some scouts are saying he'll probably drop from first round to second round. That's how people are talking about it. Winston looks as if he will be a loose cannon.

Like one scout said, "If you can't trust a player's character when he is broke, you can't trust his character when he's making 30 million dollars." Think Aaron Hernandez.

It might not be a bad idea if the NFL could suspend an individual's draft eligibility in certain sufficiently serious circumstances (i.e., child, sex, or domestic abuse) for a period of time to see if he cleans up his conduct. For example, if a hypothetical player sought to enter the 2015 draft but had engaged in disqualifying conduct, his eligibility could be suspended for a year or two and then reviewed afterward. Draft eligibility would be reinstated if and only if he had no additional similar or worse conduct or legal issues. So long as a player expects that he will all but automatically be drafted and have a chance at a lucrative career, certain individuals have too ittle incentive to consider their conduct.

Considering that the vast majority of players does not behave in such a fashion, there is almost certainly no compelling reason that a small handful of individuals could not have their draft eligibility suspended without any serious impact on the quality of the game. Almost certainly, a player like Winston needs the NFL far more than the league needs him. Indeed, given the NFL's current troubles it might even be better off without him. Playing in the NFL is a privilege, not an entitlement.

How is that nonsense? Is it your contention that Satanists DON'T have first amendment rights?

The nonsense is in that he said that "...t's the Christians that want to break down the wall of separation,..."

That is bunk.

On that, I'll agree....There seems to be something wrong with the guy's thinking process.

Your lack of understanding of how comparison, or analogies work is not my problem, and again, the thread is not about me personally....When it is, I'll let you know.
