What happens when they contract the disease, which is inevitable, and then bring it home?

''This effort ... will involve an estimated 3,000 U.S. forces,' according to the White House Pentagon official says military will 'be the lead dog, and that will make a lot of people nervous. ... No one wants U.S. personnel enforcing someone else's martial law if things go south and the entire region is at risk'

They'll have to be quarantened for an appropriate period, before they come home.

With a U.S. general leading the effort from Liberia's capital of Monrovia, American military personnel in the region could increase by 3,000, administration officials say. Working through the Defense Department, the United States will plan and construct treatment centers that could house up to 1,700 beds.

They're building a hospital in the capital city, not enforcing martial law.

Let's shoot Ebola!

Firstly. The government will motivate the presence of American military bases in Africa as a "Safety guarant" against the new outbreak.
Secondly. Hope it will not be something like this

"I'm from the government, and I'm here to help." Have you heard that refrain in the past? I hope this wasn't a FEMA plan.
"Brownie, you're doing a helluva job."

They will likely be getting the experimental vaccine before they go.

US to deploy up to 3,000 military personnel to fight Ebola in West Africa | Fox News

you'll be entertained for sure.

My favorites:

obama will take any risk with our brave military men . . . to help "his people"....

Bammy has to protect the land of his forefathers!

The only thing that comes from Africa that is any good are Diamonds. All the troops should be Black to help their people.

When did our military become doctors and scientists? This is a complete setup for a major scandal

Hopefully some lives will be saved, a vaccine will be developed, and we'll be able to keep a lid on this disease without sacrificing our military unnecessarily. Imagine living in Liberia and hearing the words, "You have ebola." It's a death sentence, and one in which you will not be able to see your loved ones or anything else that matters in this life. Maybe we can do some good.

Throw us some quotes from the streets of Ferguson while you're at it.

I won't hold my breath.

Get an article with funny comments and I'll take a look.

One minute BO is complaining how the Military is used.....and the next he is all for using Military troops for the Humanitarian reasons. 3000 troops here to go and build a hospital. How about those Humanitarians in Africa and the surrounding countries go and build a hospital.

Didn't the UN say this was already out of control?

HOW ABOUT SENDING SOME SEIU UNION WORKERS?

Throw in the Black Panthers. They aren't doing anything till Nov.

Obama's revenge on America!

Send Moochelle to lead the Fight against Ebola!

......and obama. For that matter, let's just send all democrats over there.

We should force each Liberal to take into their home

2 illegals and two Ebola patients to care for...

That will shut them the F up

This is one case where the Commander-In-Chief needs to be on site first ;))

Instead of using the N word call them an "obama"...it's worse

After reading this I had to play the Rolling Stones Let it Bleed album song MONKEY MAN

This is a good way to get rid of blacks.

i **** you not. this is why they turn off comments much of the time.

Let's see. We'll send 3000 troops to West Africa and hope they don't get sick and die. We'll send 300 to Iraq and hope they don't get shot and die. I thought the purpose of the military is to kill people and break things. Who do we want to kill and what do we want to break in West Africa?

I would be interested to see exactly how and what they are going to be doing - but according to the link that was provided:

Administration officials said that the U.S. would help to provide medical and logistical support to overwhelmed local health care systems and to boost the number of beds needed to isolate and treat victims of the epidemic. The Defense Department has asked Congress for nearly $500 million in existing funds to be put toward the effort. The money would otherwise be used to support overseas contingency operations, such as the drawdown of troops in Afghanistan.

I am hoping that these soldiers wear protective apparel and are decontaminated daily - I like others do not understand why soldiers are being used in this capacity. Why aren't we sending medical professionals, the CDC and private sector builders to get this stuff done? If we need to isolate the sick and keep them detained - I can see the military being used.

The military is the only part of the government that is sufficiently efficient.

Heya Ockham. :2wave: Yeah.....why aren't those CDC guys going. Also I am sure BO didn't account for any of the money. Just the intention.

Hey, now, everyone knows there is no "white racism" in this country! The only racism in this country is AA, the secret race war Jews suppress in the media and blacks not being held responsible for poverty.

Hah. I've actually seen those claims here.

there's still a lot of racism out there; white, black, Asian, you name it. real anonymity brings it out, but most racists won't do it in public any more because they know they'll be shunned. that's some progress, at least.

I don't believe racism is the same thing as racial bigotry; a social construct must be defined by social factors and not merely the action of an individual. The context should at least be national when examining social dynamics, so as to accommodate the ability to move away from non-systemic privilege.

Mmmm. So the deaths of thousands of people is just more fodder for partisan nonsense. Sweet.

Anyway. Liberia's resources are already strained just trying to cope with the outbreak. We're sending troops to try and help with the situation. I really don't see anything wrong with that.

Are you suggesting we should sit back and do nothing? Seriously?

The problem is not that "Ebola cannot be stopped." It's that international response has been too slow, and too little, to contain it. The longer we do nothing, the harder it will be to contain, and the more lives it will take.

Next time, you hear BO peep say my military.....then get back to me about that waste of a thought with what you think Partisanship is about.

Did I say we should sit back and do nothing? What you didn't see me agree with another about sending those from the CDC? Or asking why they aren't being sent. Must mean I was thinking about some sort of assistance from us.....huh, seriously.

Well there are a bunch of European countries that just don't have a full plate to deal with.....do you think they can be influenced to get off their ass and do something rather than sit around and hope it don't show up in their country.

The US generally militarizes everything. I mean, just look at what occurred after the earthquake in Haiti. We militarized the aid.
