Vikings: Adrian Peterson to return

The evidence of bloody wounds on the child's body and eyewitness testimony and Peterson's admission .. all is sufficient to indict on child abuse.

One does not inflict wounds on a child.

Frequently when such wounds are inflicted, the parent is not providing correction but is venting emotion, and it is the venting of emotion that causes the striking to be excessive sufficient to cause such wounds. When such venting of emotion occurs, the parent is out of control.

So, according to our laws, Peterson needs to be indicted, etc.

But, The Vikings and the NFL are, once again, out of line depriving Peterson of his paycheck.

This is a public matter, the realm of our legal justice system.

This is not a private (enterprise) matter, the realm of the Vikings and the NFL.

Peterson should remain with the team, innocent until PROVEN guilty, and, if he's proven guilty and his punishment still allows him the freedom to play for the Vikings, he should be allowed to do so.

There is no excuse for preventing anyone from earning a living in such a situation as this other than because that person is compelled by our legal justice system to be unavailable.

If the Vikings want to make him "invisible" for a while, then, if that's justified, they may do so.

But, not without pay!

The court of public opinion is looking to punish Peterson, especially the liberal "justices".

But the court of public opinion is, without question, not a court at all.

Those wanting to deprive Peterson of his paycheck because they seek vengeance for what was done to them in the past by taking that out on others .. should just shut up and go away, back to their therapist.

You cant possibly be comparing an out right all over ass whupping to a light swat that lasted a week?

Come on, man!!!

Look...lots of parents make in the moment bad decisions that result in charges of abuse. This indict has stuck. Whether the charges will result in a conviction or plea...I dont know. But judge the photos by what they are. We dont have to sit on the jury but we do sit on the court of public opinion. That was abuse.

I had a foster mother that used to tear into me (literally) with anything at hand. Her weapon of choice was a high heeled shoe. She was by and large a good person and hell...I dont mind saying I have fond thoughts for her. In many ways she was the closest I ever came to having a real parent. Her violent attacks didnt change that, but it was no less abusive.

Honestly, I think his biggest mistake was using a switch. I think had he of used a paddle or fly swatter, we wouldn't be having this discussion. Forty years ago people would of rolled their eyes at this, but by today's definition I will say that it would classify as abuse. And let's face it, today's society isn't exactly that much more superior to other generations that have come before this was deemed as abuse. I think he should be suspended, I don't think this should cost him the career though like it did with Ray Rice. And unless the mother comes out and says Ray is a horrible father and has a history of this, I don't think it should also cost him his kid.

Isn't he divorced? Just give mom full custody.

I bet 1:2 he doesn't play Sunday this evening.

You simply cannot downplay a kid getting whipped all over his body. I'm not saying he should lose his kid or even his football career. I'm saying he shouldn't escape the legal consequence of committing an act of child abuse.

His son was 4 years old and the punishment left bloody marks along bruises on his back, rear end, thighs and hands, he also stuffed leaves in the child's mouth. Children need discipline but at the age of 4, this was too much.
I saw the pics. He went way over the line. The grand jury thinks so too.

Well for hells sake. Now there is a second report of him leaving a scar on the forehead of a second child because the boy wouldnt stand still to take his whuppin...

It is a sad commentary on our culture that there are idiots who care more about prisoners in GITMO than they do the children of Sports stars.... or children in general.

This should be the end of Adrian Peterson and Roger Goodell. If the NFL culture is to only care when the truth gets out then they are an organization geared towards coverups.

Good.

Unlike many/most of you people, I do not believe in punishing someone for a crime until they have actually been convicted in court.

Innocent until proven guilty.

And if he is not convicted of a crime in this case, then the matter is no one else's business but his and the other families (I don't care what his contract says).

You don't need a court in this case regarding his position with the NFL. Peterson admits that the multiple open wounds and scars on the 4 year old boy are his doing. Regardless of how a jury decides on the case the NFL and the Vikings can still decide based on that uncontested evidence if a man who brutalizes 4 year olds is someone they want in their league.

Imagine if, like the Ray Rice incident, there was video of Peterson beating that little boy bloody while the little boy tried to scream with a mouth stuffed full of leaves.

None of this is contested by Peterson.

Cut him from. It's far less punishment than he doled out to a child that is likely too young to even understand why his daddy is cutting him literally.

Like I said, give him a pathway back into the NFL, but it runs through a series of brutal beatings where he is hit in the back, head, legs and scrotum hard enough to break the skin. Beat him that hard, a few times, and then let him limp his sorry ass out on the field.

He's pond scum just for what he admits to.

The Vikings are trying to justify that they suspended a DB who was accused of domestic violence, but are letting Peterson play by saying "Well, it's different circumstances." Those being getting your ass handed to you by the Patriots.

The video doesn't say that. I just like what Cris Carter said.

"Hello Adrian, I will be administering your discipline today. Go get your stick."

Nike stores at the Mall of America in Bloomington and at an outlet mall in Albertville pulled Peterson merchandise. The Associated Press left a message with Nike seeking comment.

Mylan Inc. said it was no longer working with Peterson to promote its EpiPen, used to treat allergic reactions. The running back had participated in several promotions to raise awareness for anaphylaxis, which he has dealt with in the past. ''Mylan has ended all activities with Adrian Peterson,'' spokeswoman Julie Knell said. ''We remain committed to supporting those managing potentially life-threatening allergies and will continue our educational efforts to increase anaphylaxis awareness and preparedness.''

U.S. Bank, which is rumored to be in the running for the naming rights to the team's new stadium, said it is ''monitoring the situation closely.''

So is Shaun Hagglund, the owner of Fan HQ in suburban Minneapolis who said he pulled Peterson apparel from the store's shelves as soon as the charge came down on Friday night...

Keep apologizing for domestic violence and child abuse, real classy.

Peterson's accusation is not at the same level as Rice's was. He didn't knock out his wife in an elevator. He spanked his kids with a switch, which is something that many parents do. Did he go too far with the spanking? That is for the courts to determine. Peterson has pleaded not guilty, and until the court decides one way or the other, he is still considered innocent. So, while you are honing your pitchfork, please keep that in mind.

We have pics (from the doctor that reported the injuries to the police) and he admitted it. He even admits stuffing the 4 year old's mouth with leaves before the beating. Innocent is out of the question.

I hear a couple major sponsors will drop him.

MINNEAPOLIS -- The governor of Minnesota has joined the chorus of those calling for the Minnesota Vikings to suspend running back Adrian Peterson.

Mark Dayton -- who spearheaded the legislative fight for the Vikings' new $1 billion stadium and stood next to team owner Zygi Wilf at the groundbreaking in November -- released a statement on Tuesday saying he believes the Vikings should take Peterson off the field until his child abuse case is resolved in Montgomery County, Texas.

The problem is: only the NFL can suspend Peterson. The team can only deactivate him and then they eat the cost for the NFL's image.

The decision to grant bail to those awaiting trial is based on a variety of factors. One of those factors is evidence.

The evidence in this case is pretty damning(the photos) so I have no problem with the league or the the Vikings suspending him in the name of protecting their brand.

The Vikings cannot suspend him. The article was incorrectly titled. The Gov requested he remain off the field (deactivation).

Seen this?

According to police reports, the child, however, had a slightly different story, telling authorities that “Daddy Peterson hit me on my face.” The child also expressed worry that Peterson would punch him in the face if the child reported the incident to authorities. He also said that he had been hit by a belt and that “there are a lot of belts in Daddy’s closet.” He added that Peterson put leaves in his mouth when he was being hit with the switch while his pants were down. The child told his mother that Peterson “likes belts and switches” and “has a whooping room.”

Peterson, when contacted by police, admitted that he had “whooped” his son on the backside with a switch as a form of punishment, and then, in fact, produced a switch similar to the one with which he hit the child. Peterson also admitted that he administered two different “whoopings” to his son during the visit to Texas, the other being a punishment for the 4-year-old scratching the face of a 5-year-old.

Yeah. I live in Minnesota so this story is pretty much 24/7. It looks like the cycle of abuse is playing out before our eyes.

I also think the Vikings are making themselves look ridiculous for deactivating him for last week but allowing him to play this week. What does that say? One game for beating a child is the proper punishment? It doesn't make any sense.

The Vikings have now placed Peterson on the commissioner's exempt list and he will be deactivated indefinitely.

Statement by Viking owners Zygi Wilf and Mark Wilf.

“This has been an ongoing and deliberate process since last Friday’s news. In conversations with the NFL over the last two days, the Vikings advised the League of the team’s decision to revisit the situation regarding Adrian Peterson. In response, the League informed the team of the option to place Adrian on the Exempt/Commissioner’s Permission list, which will require that Adrian remain away from all team activities while allowing him to take care of his personal situation until the legal proceedings are resolved. After giving the situation additional thought, we have decided this is the appropriate course of action for the organization and for Adrian.”

The statement continues: "We are always focused on trying to make the right decision as an organization. We embrace our role - and the responsibilities that go with it – as a leader in the community, as a business partner and as an organization that can build bridges with our fans and positively impact this great region. We appreciate and value the input we have received from our fans, our partners and the community.

While we were trying to make a balanced decision yesterday, after further reflection we have concluded that this resolution is best for the Vikings and for Adrian. We want to be clear: we have a strong stance regarding the protection and welfare of children, and we want to be sure we get this right. At the same time we want to express our support for Adrian and acknowledge his seven-plus years of outstanding commitment to this organization and this community. Adrian emphasized his desire to avoid further distraction to his teammates and coaches while focusing on his current situation; this resolution accomplishes these objectives as well.

We will support Adrian during this legal and personal process, but we firmly believe and realize this is the right decision. We hope that all of our fans can respect the process that we have gone through to reach this final decision."

Why the flip-flop? Money. Sponsors and advertisers were beginning to bail.

This Vikings move has so little to do with them just losing Radisson, not to mention Gov. Dayton's remarks. Just as their original move to reinstate him had nothing to do with their blowout loss to the Patriots .

While the legality of his actions are still in question (Guilty or innocent), the actions have already been known and verified. It is quite proper to act on those actions and not just wait for the court ruling. Remember, there are actions that people can do that are legal, yet would warrant action in the form of firing by the employer should those actions be a burden on the employer.
