The Minnesota Vikings announced Monday that running back Adrian Peterson will return to practices and meetings this week and is expected to play Sunday against the New Orleans Saints...

"At this time, however, we believe this is a matter of due process and we should allow the legal system to proceed so we can come to the most effective conclusions and then determine the appropriate course of action. This is a difficult path to navigate, and our focus is on doing the right thing. Currently we believe we are at a juncture where the most appropriate next step is to allow the judicial process to move forward. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and support Adrian's fulfillment of his legal responsibilities throughout this process."

Minnesota Vikings say Adrian Peterson likely to play in Week 3 - ESPN

I think the team is trying to force the NFL's hand, so that the team doesn't have to eat the cost of deactivation.

Or they knee jerked when they should of given the courts time to figure things out. Keep in mind the whole Ray Rice thing from last week and how it was blown massively out of proportion, so the Vikings of course wanted to play it safe. I think the 49ers taking the route they did with there guy, made it a lot easier for them to take this approach.

Keep apologizing for domestic violence and child abuse, real classy.

I'm on Janay Rice's side of this, who's side are you on again? And I'm going to just assume you never had parents or are under the age of twenty, because otherwise, you would of had a whipping before.

That is a lame defense. The abused spouse almost invariably defends their abuser. "Taking her side" is therefor not the moral high ground.

Typical domestic violence apology. I'm sorry to hear it. Good luck healing.

The hip-hop culture celebrates this stuff.

It's almost more common than uncommon in that world.

Sure why not, give him a pat on the butt and let him play until further notice.
It's not like he is a role model or anything.

You're right, we should never listen to what a woman has to say as her opinion doesn't matter in this case. But unlike many domestic abuses that happened in this country, celebrity domestic abuse is very much a different bag of apples. The reason I say this is because you have any number of sources that can come out on your behalf; the fact that it is so public means there's always going to be a hospital worker, or a friend, or even someone just looking for a quick dollar, who is willing to run to the media on her behalf. In this case , there hasn't been a friend that has come out on her behalf saying that this is a trend of abuse. In addition, there is also no history of domestic abuse or even bad behavior as it concerns Ray Rice. Everyone wants to condemn a man and destroy his career over what, by all accounts, was a mistake done while intoxicate, after being hit first, and one that he is deeply sorry for. I'm not saying it exonerates him completely, I think that a suspension of two games was appropriate to send the message that the NFL doesn't condone such actions.

Unless either of you, or anyone for that matter, actually personally knows either Ray or Janay Rice, you cannot be 100% certain that Janay Rice doesn't mean it when she talks about the love they share. And discounting her opinion solely based on some archaic bias that a woman needs a man's protection and can't think for herself, is just as bad as smacking around a woman in my book.

Not sure how that would even play out. I can imagine the protests and signs. Plus...honestly I think dood would benefit stepping away from the game a few months at least. He is just coming off the death of one son and now stands accused of whipping a child on his legs, stomach, groin, and butt. Dood is at the very least having a bad year.

For generations, kids have been punished with a switch. Probably the most notorious of this sort of punishment, only went to become the greatest generation, who endured a great depression and fight a world war. Just how far is all the coddling we're doing today getting us?

I think he'd also be out ten million dollars Vance, that's a decent incentive to keep playing.

I had forgotten about that until my husband reminded me over the weekend. It made it even more tragic, after losing one son he could do this to another one. I agree, he might benefit by taking some time off.

Pretty sure he already has 10 million. Id be a lot more worried about his emotional well being long term if I was his coach.

The league has morality clauses for a reason. I dont know...I think especially after the completely botched Ray Rice situation there needs to be better responses the FIRST time.

Pictures and video tell the story.

Only part of it, look at the Rodney King video. The video that was released only showed the cops reaction, not the multiple times that King got up and attacked the police.

His son was 4 years old and the punishment left bloody marks along bruises on his back, rear end, thighs and hands, he also stuffed leaves in the child's mouth. Children need discipline but at the age of 4, this was too much.

Not trying to judge the guy, but he doesnt sound like father of the year material. He only just found out about his first son and as I understand it, and has three other kids by different women. Maybe he was sincere when he said he is changing his life and maybe he sincerely felt that the whipping he administered was OK. I dont know...thats some very even patterned whipping. Its pretty remarkable all things considered.

None of us have all the facts in the Peterson case.
What I will say is that the kid was FOUR YEARS OLD!!!
Not beating a FOUR YEAR OLD!!! with a switch shouldn't be considered coddling in any sane person's brain.
Also, this indictment came down in TEXAS......hardly a bastion of child-coddling I would say.

We had plenty more info about Rodney King. Having more video with Ray Rice is telling as well. But there really isnt any justification for that kind of a whipping. Come on man....

When a large group of cops stand around and take turns clubbing/tasing a SUSPECT.....well, what can I say, people talk.
At least the cops didn't shoot him.
That's something, I guess.

To be fair, the son he lost I believe was one he didn't even know he had until the child died.

That was much more than just a "whipping". The poor kid had welts and cuts all up and down his legs and the photos were taken a WEEK after the abuse happened. You don't do that to a 4 year old. A 4 year old is just a toddler for Christ sake. I'm not saying a kid might not need a swat on the ass from time to time but don't even try to equate what happened here to something that would fall into the realm of accepted parenting practices.

What happened to that kid is criminal.

He found out about it several months prior. I heard an interview he did with ESPN after the loss of his son. I dont doubt his sincerity. I certainly question his judgement. As a father, what part of you (the generic 'you') says its OK to whip a kid all over his body leaving patterned cuts and bruises?

The kid will heal and when he's older, he will be talking about how much he loves his father, and will probably be speaking fondly of his father as well... as has happened for generation after generation. Now if it comes out that there is a history of abuse with the child, then I'll change my views. I went to a private school where they paddled kids, and I got it once because I walked out of class to meet my mother outside, instead of waiting to be called, because she had mystenia gravis and being kept in a hot car for too long was bad for her health. Of course I had to be spanked, even though my mother was on my side. They said to her that if I wasn't punished, I'd be kicked out, so she did it. Unfortunately, her muscles decided that was the time to pop, and instead of a light swat, I had a mark that lasted for a week.

Look we can argue whether or not it was an effective punishment, and at that age, we can argue that point. But I'm not going to argue malicious intent on AP's behalf, which is what I believe is more important when determining child abuse.

You cant possibly be comparing an out right all over ass whupping to a light swat that lasted a week?

Come on, man!!!

Look...lots of parents make in the moment bad decisions that result in charges of abuse. This indict has stuck. Whether the charges will result in a conviction or plea...I dont know. But judge the photos by what they are. We dont have to sit on the jury but we do sit on the court of public opinion. That was abuse.

I had a foster mother that used to tear into me (literally) with anything at hand. Her weapon of choice was a high heeled shoe. She was by and large a good person and hell...I dont mind saying I have fond thoughts for her. In many ways she was the closest I ever came to having a real parent. Her violent attacks didnt change that, but it was no less abusive.
