Liberal Vermont Senator Sanders may seek U.S. presidency in 2016

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Bernie Sanders, one of the Senate's leading liberals, said on Sunday he is thinking about running for U.S. president in 2016 as either a Democrat or an independent in a move that could complicate Hillary Clinton's path to the White House.
Not to be outdone by Conservative extremists, Liberals may have an extremist of their own running in 2016. To that I say "Run Bernie Run". This would definitely stop Hillary Clinton from gaining the White House. Her Neoliberal positions are every bit as dangerous as the Neocons were, and to be honest, I would rather see a Republican who is not a Neocon in office over Hillary.

    Liberal? He's a democratic socialist.

No, Sanders wouldn't stand a chance in hell. Unlike Perot or Ralph Nader, the guy would pull far less support.

I saw him on Meet The Press this morning, and he all but said he was running.

Do you think he can beat Hillary? He said he thought he could, because she isn't a Progressive or a true Liberal where he is hands down. It was great interview.

I disagree with most of what he stands for, but I do like the guy. Wouldn't vote for him, but I'd love to meet him at a bar, buy him a few drinks and tap his brain. He's a brilliant man, and I have a huge amount of respect for him.

I can't claim to know what's in the mind of the average liberal/Democrat - some things are impossible to know. But it seems to me that a Sanders candidacy would be similar to the Ron Paul candidacy or Pat Buchanan candidacies on the Republican side. What it will do, in my view, is ruin any chance that Elizabeth Warren would have because her positions would be more linked to Sanders' extremes and Hillary will look more moderate by comparison. In my view, the only way to avoid a Hillary nomination would be to clear the field to the left of Hillary and focus on Warren.

Personally, I want to see Jeb Bush as your next President so anything that helps Hillary is fine with me.

I think you'd be surprised. In the Democrat party, he would get a huge amount of support. In the General Election, not so much, but on that I may be surprised as well.

A large portion of the country is turning Socialist. Not enough to turn the government full socialist, but maybe enough to give Bernie a chance in the Democrat primaries.

Delusions of grandeur. He, not unlike libertarian leaning republicans, vastly overestimates the support he would garner.

That's what popped into my mind this morning when I watched him of NBC - how will he deal with Warren and her supporters, that are the same ones he would need to win the nomination.

He did state that he would run as a Democrat, and not as an Independent, if certain things worked out for him to do so. I took from that, that he was talking about Elizabeth Warren.

    I don't consider Sander's views extreme.

I am annoyed that the mainstream media has annointed Clinton as the next candidate. I support Sanders running against her in the Democratic primary so that the public will be exposed to genuine liberal issues and perspectives, which are rarely heard in the mainstream media.

Unfortunately, the system is rigged so that any liberal third party candidate is only going to hurt the Democrat candidate, so I don't expect to support a run as a third party candidate if the race is close.

Bernie is a left wing extremist but the way this country is going he just might have a chance. Then you add to that the fact that the media would support him as they trashed the rep candidate and he may be a shoe in.
