Liberal Vermont Senator Sanders may seek U.S. presidency in 2016

He know that. He knows he wouldn't stand "a chance in hell". All he's doing is trying to pull Hillary further to the Left.

And I say that as an alternate Washington state delegate for Hillary in 2008. I've still got her old campaign posters downstairs as I type this. I'll eagerly vote for her.

Sadly, Sanders may pull Hilary to the left a bit during the primaries, but then she'll be pulled to the right for the November election.

Some Sanders quotes, just to see where he stands on the issues:

How much of what he says do you actually agree with?

A lot! I like him even more after seeing those quotes.

Not to be outdone by Conservative extremists, Liberals may have an extremist of their own running in 2016. To that I say "Run Bernie Run". This would definitely stop Hillary Clinton from gaining the White House. Her Neoliberal positions are every bit as dangerous as the Neocons were, and to be honest, I would rather see a Republican who is not a Neocon in office over Hillary.

No more Clintons and no more Bush's. Though I don't know why you consider Sanders an extremist.

I can't claim to know what's in the mind of the average liberal/Democrat - some things are impossible to know. But it seems to me that a Sanders candidacy would be similar to the Ron Paul candidacy or Pat Buchanan candidacies on the Republican side. What it will do, in my view, is ruin any chance that Elizabeth Warren would have because her positions would be more linked to Sanders' extremes and Hillary will look more moderate by comparison. In my view, the only way to avoid a Hillary nomination would be to clear the field to the left of Hillary and focus on Warren.

Personally, I want to see Jeb Bush as your next President so anything that helps Hillary is fine with me.

No more Clintons, no more Bush's, we haven't yet succumbed to an oligarchy!

That's what popped into my mind this morning when I watched him of NBC - how will he deal with Warren and her supporters, that are the same ones he would need to win the nomination.

He did state that he would run as a Democrat, and not as an Independent, if certain things worked out for him to do so. I took from that, that he was talking about Elizabeth Warren.

For my two cents Beau, I'm more concerned with foreign policy, where presidents have more unilateral power. The things I don't support a guy like Ron Paul or Bernie Sanders on domestically, they couldn't pull off, therefore, I don't worry about.

"extremist" lol

Even if he somehow won the nomination he would stand no chance. All you have to bring up is that he called himself a socialist and he'll get torn to shreds

Well, that's not entirely bad.

Liberal? He's a democratic socialist.

No, Sanders wouldn't stand a chance in hell. Unlike Perot or Ralph Nader, the guy would pull far less support.

Lets see, the Democrats ran Obama as a black man in 2008. If the Democrats ran Sanders not as a socialist but as a liberal, we could end up with another socialist in the White House again.

You and I know that, but Obama and most Americans don't know that.

I like to give credit when credit is due. Barack Obama is the first mulatto to serve as POTUS.

There was a question mark, not an exclamation point behind that!! And, there's no telling how many presidents have had some AA blood in them.

It's been several weeks now since Republican conservatives who hate Clinton have been promoting Sanders and Biden,
trying their best to employ the Nixonion card of "divide and conquer".

Since they can't stop their own candiates like Cruz and Paul from going off the rails,
they disengenuously try to play Dems off on each other.

So consider this post as something I've already spoken against on DP and will now be watching full-time.

It's just as bad as playing Latino-Americans against Conservative Democratsw on Immigration Reform.
And I'm just getting started .

I thought about that.

But I don't give a **** if there was or not. I don't let the color of someones skin influence my vote at the polls.

But I'm wondering if Jimmy Carter is mulatto. :thinking

Very good point Monte.

What a right wing partisan you are. Perhaps a racist as well.

Beau! It's late, you must get your sleep. :2wave: ;)

:lamo :2wave:

Had to work on the stand-by generator today, and I twisted my flippin' bad knee (well, they're both bad, but the worst one is the one I twisted). I forget sometimes and try to act like I'm still 20 without all these busted parts. Took a 800mg Ibuprofen and an Oxycodone... not getting much sleep right now, so I turned this 'puter back on thought I'd come bother you folks a while.

Sanders said that he has "a lot of disagreements" with Obama, adding: "I think he has not tapped the anger and the frustration that the American people feel on many, many issues."

In the weird Oz-like land of politics this is to Obama what the south did to Fort Sumpter....

If he were a Democrat it would be the equivalent of internal warfare at this juncture, with the mid terms looming. He shows great craftiness at least in taking the shot now, getting the attention of all dissatisfied liberals.

It also sets the stage as something of a call out to Clinton, he's addressed, in general terms, what is the issue this November, Obama's record. He's even going to Iowa to "get a sense of how people feel about it" in other words begin building a machine.

i am hoping he takes this opportunity to prove you wrong
very wrong

Americans are looking for a straight shooter who will take on the special interests
We should find out in a few months what America is actually looking for.

Sorry...Sanders is simply a myopic liberal hack. He doesnt want to stop excessive campaign contributions and involvement, he wants to stop republican donors. He isnt opposed to bankers and brokers and special interest groups...he is just opposed to the ones that support GOP causes. He is no different than all the rich democrats living in their mansions separated from the masses and bemoaning all the 'little people' and how unfair the world is for them.

That being said...I TRULY hope he does run. It should make for an interesting primary to see which one of their own the democrats start eating because they represent a threat to the party choice. I can see a rerun of 1992. Run Jesse Run!!!

I respect Sanders for being honest about what he is politically. I wish others would be as honest in DC.

That said, I don't see him going anywhere. It reminds me of Ron Paul's campaign. It'll generate excitement. Young people will probably support him. But in the end, he won't get the Democratic support. He can't deliver on states they need. He'll deliver Vermont but the Dem can count on that state anyway. But it sure throws a wrench in things.
