Adrian Peterson indicted in child injury case in Texas

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has been indicted in Texas for "reckless or negligent injury to a child," according to the Fox affiliate in Houston. The indictment was made in Montgomery County.

Child Protective Services confirms to TMZ that they are working on a case involving Peterson and an 11-year-old boy.

More from TMZ: "Sources connected to Peterson tell us (that) the alleged victim is a male child from Minnesota who was visiting (Peterson) back in May at the running back's Texas home. We're told the child returned home to his mother in Minnesota who noticed injuries and took the child to a doctor. A short time later, the doctor contacted authorities in Texas to report Peterson."

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports that Peterson's arrest stems from disciplining his son with a switch.

As much as I would never do this to my child, I would think if there's one state this would be legal, it would be Texas. Gold digging? Hard to say.

The gold digging angle wouldn't surprise me given the attention the NFL has been getting lately. Perhaps the mother has seen all of this Ray Rice business and saw it as an opportunity to cash in. Like you said, it's hard to say at this point.

Gold digging? The doc reported it. The doc is trying to score some kickback? C'mon.

Now the NFL must decide what sanctions are appropriate for child abuse or a first and subsequent offense. That NFL personnel policy manual must be getting to be quite a tome.

One would think they already have policies for actions resulting from criminal conviction.

And how the hell can Greg Hardy of Carolina be suiting up to play after his CONVICTION? The stuff he did sounds far worse than one KO punch.

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.... John Rogers

There is not yet any criminal conviction in this case. It appears that you are wrong given the hoopla over Ray Rice recently.
