What a friggin dirtbag. I spank my child. This isn't spanking. That is beating/torture. If a person "spanks" their child hard enough to leave welts and scabs, it's beyond spanking at that point. As big as Peterson is, he could probably spank his child one time with his hand on the behind and that would be plenty. Whenever a foreign object is brought into spanking, it isn't spanking anymore IMO. Yes, that includes a belt. Spanking isn't something that should be done daily or even every other day. Spanking is a last resort thing that should be done when a child disobeys an order given by their parent that could result in them being seriously hurt. Example, I have spanked (one hit, with my hand, on the butt) my son for running out from between two cars in a parking lot.

Maybe. Maybe not. After they saw it was an isolated incident of going overboard with a spanking, it would have been dropped.

I, my parents, my grandparents, and every kid I grew up with were apparently abused as a child.

This is obviously an issue where people have different opinions and I certainly don't think anyone needs to spank their child..but in the culture I grew up in (I'm only 28), calling this child abuse WOULD have been laughable. Why there is a culturally acceptable place to hit a child and unacceptable places to hit children, I can't explain, but it's still a thing.

I'm sorry to hear that. Fortunately, I and many others did not suffer such. Even more fortunately, society has progressed to the point where many would-be abusers have heard and understand the impacts of physical abuse against children.

I hope that you don't still have problems to get through because of your abuse, and I hope you have or will fully recover from being treated like an animal by animals.

If he is found guilty he needs to be kicked to the curb too, but the guilt of Rice is beyond any doubt. Also, it sounds like he lied to the league about the extend of his crime and now has been found out.++

And it is innocent until proven guilty.

Peterson has an iffy past but it is possible the boy's parents are simply con artist's looking for a lawsuit settlement.

But the NFL did not suspend him or anything, I think his team benched him (maybe to protect their own image or to protect the player from verbal abuse).
