Re: Teacher asks students to compare Hitler to Bush in homework assignment

The assignment was to "compare and contrast Bush and Hitler".
If contrasts could not be found...then Bush has big image problem with middle school students.
The teacher in question is merely the bringer of that bad news for pro Bush enthusiasts.

    Because that'd be racist.

Hitler has not been in office since 1940's. Their time in office belong in history now.

Or the teacher is the bringer of bad news for pro Hitler enthusiasts.

Especially with the post of the actual assignment, can you not at least acknowledge that this was an inappropriate assignment?

Do you have a problem with this assignment being given to students? Would you want your kids in this teacher's class? Who do you think is the guilty party here, the teacher, the School Board, or even the parents for making a bid deal out of this?

    Discuss.
I do not have a problem with this in all honesty, but the end result should be down to the pupils and A grades should be awarded to students who make the case that there is no comparison between Bush and Hitler. If the teacher would only award good grades to pupils who come with the conclusion that there is a comparison between the two then she needs to find a new job because then she would not be fit for her duties.

She could have given the assignment as such:

You have a choice, choose between the two following assignments:

assignment 1. People on the left have compared George W. Bush with Adolf Hitler, write a study about who these leftist people are, why those people have stated this and what you think about this accusation. Investigate the accusations by trying to find the facts to support or disprove these claims and explain whether (based on those facts) you agree or disagree with these leftists accusation.

assignment 2. People on the right have accused Barack Hussein Obama of being a socialist and a dictator, write a study about who the people are that accuse Obama of being a socialist and a dictator, why those people have stated this and what you think of these accusations. Investigate the accusations by trying to find the facts to support/disprove these claims and explain whether (based on those facts) you agree or disagree with these accusations.

That would have been a fair and proper assignment for people taking political science or something like that.

FYI, I am a leftist and did not like Bush (the elder I liked better than Junior) but he was and is no Hitler and there is no justification to compare him to Hitler.

This would be an easy essay to write.

Hitler exterminated millions of people. Bush didn't. The end.
