I've planted lots of Hawaiian plants around my house, bamboo, passion fruit, plumeria, papaya, pineapple, banana, I get my green in, and lots of herbs and the super food, moringa. Got to have some green where I live.

When I had a house up in the former flood plains of the Savannah river... the soil was so rich you always smelled it. Really dark. Taking care of your plants was the aboslute opposite of living in arizona. In AZ you had to work your ass off to get things to grow. IN GA you had to work your ass off to remove things you didn't want that would grow and choke out what you did want growing. I bought a house that was an older ladies house and she passed away. She clearly got up in age and let the yard go. I literally had a daffodil infestation. You could see where she made areas where she started having the daffodils and then they spilled out into the whole yard and took over. I'd mow them down and they'd come back. I know it sounds weird.. "why would you mow down daffodils..." but I wanted them in some areas and not others. It was bizarre.

The worst was that I was never able to get control of the damn poison ivy. I caught it every single year I was there. It would grow up into my house's siding and I had to pull it out.

I'm not a green thumb. I killed Oleanders. They say that's damn near impossible to do in AZ. I couldn't get them to grow. Of course the stray cats pissing on them and digging around them soon after I planted them didn't help either.

Moringa grows so fast, I have to cut 2 feet off the top every few weeks. The leaves are among the highest in vitamins and iron, you can eat them, dry them and take them as pills, etc. They have been planting them in drought areas in Africa, they don't need much to grow, and you can use all of the plant. Amazing thing.

Thanks for the pics. Awesome shots.
Thanks. Turned out well for my cellphone. Kind of wish we'd taken our good camera.

And yeah... I was kind of thinking that when seeing kids play in it. But I'd wager the water is a lot safer than the actual swamp water that so many people swim in.

Rob, here's some footage from the Rillito in Tucson. Remember, 12 months of the year it's usually dry.

I have CDO, it's like OCD but the letters are in alphabetical order like they should be.

That is impressive. I live on an arroyo here in nm and its a lot wider than that and when it rains it gets scary like that. Not quite that roaring but seriously dangerous similar to that. If I remember when I get home I'll try to snap a pic of it.
