Nice side stepping the issue. GOP has to act. Deflecting to the President shows you people see it as a losing proposition.

Lets see in the coming weeks whether the GOP base holds the GOP to what they were clamoring for just a month ago.

There is no requirement for the President to take Executive action...there is a requirement that Congress does...that is if the illegal immigration was more than false outrage.

But do you think the GOP will actually do anything about the problem. They'll be back in DC tomorrow and there's lots of things that they need to work on.

    Immigration needs to be fixed.
Will they fund the Government past Sept.30th or just throw more money at it and kick the can down the road.
All the problems in the ME.
    Jobs, the economy.
The problem is that they only scheduled 12 days in DC then off to the campaign trail.
They can be too concerned about these things.
I confess, I did it, I let the dogs out.

I hear steroids cause all kinds of physical problems. What if Obama grows breasts instead?

Polls suggest that "fixing" immigration is far down the list of priorities for most Americans. If theres one thing that can wait-its this.

The President may have a pen and a cell phone but with regards to Congress he doesn't use either one very often. This is just politics, both his thread to do something and his delay until after the elections.

Why is it that everyone is insisting there need to be some massive 'reform'? We already allow 1 million LEGAL immigrants annually. There is a path to citizenship and there is a reason why the immigration laws exist. We simply cannot bring in every single person that wants to come here. The country cant afford it nor sustain it.

As to what he can or cant do...Immigration law is codified law (The Immigration and Nationality Act). Obama cannot alter or change law. He simply doesnt have the authority to do so. People claim Reagan granted amnesty. He did no such thing. Reagan signed into law the Simpson Mazzoli act...he signed law passed by the House and Senate. Executive privilege extends to the execution of existing laws by branches of the government. He may order INS to cease deporting any and everyone but he cannot alter the law to grant citizenship. He knows that. If he attempts to, it will create a pretty brutal and ugly scene. He will knowingly lie to a whole lot of people and intentionally place them all as the legal rope.

You and others are welcome to continue to insist this is all a GOP vs Obama thing...but you are wrong. There are large numbers of democrats opposed to amnesty. One of the most vocal groups today is the black voting bloc. They see their own community dying with unemployment rates almost double that of the rest of the country and rampant poverty, crime, addiction, teen pregnancy, education problems, literacy concerns, etc. They know what this would do to them. I dont think it would cause people to vote for republicans...but it would cause a lot of people to just not vote.
Bravo. Of course it takes an Independent to point this out.
We are one nation, and its time we remember that. Law makers and voters from both sides of the aisle need to take a stand and work for the people and with each other, for and with the American people and those who wish to become Americans by obeying existing laws

ITs sad and blatantly obvious that ALL that motivates him is partisanship. He NEVER calls out the democrats for their obstructionist attitudes. He NEVER calls out Harry Reid...the guy who has driven the senate into the ground since the 2006 elections.

Don't know where you're getting this from, but ok. How about the other problems that need working on? Do you think they will even try to fund the Government or just throw money at it till after the elections?

Why? Just what is it you think the GOP 'has' to do'? We bring in a million LEGAL immigrants a year. This latest spate of illegal immigration is a bi-product of the EXECUTIVE branch, not the legislative branch.

When people like you say you demand the GOP act, all you really mean is it is the time for the GOP to do what YOU think they should do. Many Americans, including many democrats, do NOT want blanket amnesty and dont believe it is in any way shape or form the right thing to do. We have an ABUNDANCE of under skilled unemployed Americans that cant speak English, cant fill out a resume, and wouldnt have job skills to include in a resume if they COULD fill one out. Adding 20 million more to the labor force makes zero sense to ANYONE. IF the Executive branch acted on existing immigration law, the problem would be resolved. IF they targeted business that hire illegals, and IF they secured the border (acted on existing law) and IF they actually worked WITH the states and local law enforcement agencies that they themselves spent billions training to identify and remove illegal immigrants, especially those that commit crimes...this problem would work itself out in relatively short order. There is no reason to round people up en masse and send them home.

Now...are there other things that should be addressed? Sure. Our economic relationship with mejico for starters. There should be passed some sort of path to citizenship for minors. There are things that could and should be done and BOTH PARTIES share blame.

Its obvious he's just trying to defer the pain until after the election-its like Obamacare in that way.
