Sure, right now there's no way they can make good on those threats. However, given time and a less than enthusiastic bent to go at them head to head on the ground, they will only get stronger.

To conquer them will take ground forces, and a long, LONG, time given that they can recruit from around the world for replacement jihadists.
And lots of blood and money!

Money can be replaced, the blood cannot. However, they have made it clear that they will continue to spill more and more blood regardless of what we do, and have sworn to do so here in the US at some point in time. I believe them. Once that happens, it will take a lot more blood to stop them than it would to do so now. So, blood will be spilled and lost either way - better to minimize than to wait to the point that it's worse.
Everything in your life is a reflection of a choice you have made. If you want a different result, don't blame someone else, or expect others to make a change, you should stop complaining and make a different choice. Remember, the circumstances of your birth don't determine the outcome of your life.

Yes well, pity that we advance policy in the ME that gives rise to these militant Islamists. So now then here we go again battling a crisis we have helped to create or enabled. Maybe Putin will take care of this one, now that they appear to have threatened him as well.

Apparently ISIS hasn't been keeping up with current events in Eastern Europe.

Putin isn't a spineless nancy like Obama. He'll walk all over them.

Monte, these people don't do what they do because of us. These guys started off attacking Assad in Syria, not us. They then went after the Shia in Iraq, and then the Kurds. Now that we have come to the aid of the Kurds, they have turned their attention to us.

They want a Caliphate, and that isn't our fault. They believe in a bastardized version of Islam, and that isn't our fault. They feel that brutality and murder are the best means to gain their goals, and that isn't our fault.

Well, if I was blaming the fact that they want a caliphate on the US, then you'd have a very fine point indeed. But, what I have articulated, is that US policy has facilitated, and enabled these militant Islamic extremists. Now there is a huge difference between the two positions that I hope you see. I don't defend the caliphate, their "bastardised" version of Islam, or any of their goals. And I can readily see the danger posed by them having gained the power and momentum that they now have. Here's my concern. These rat bastards didn't have any quarters in the ME until we removed the figures of Hussein, Mubarak, Gaddafi and Assad. One may argue that in various forms they've been around and lurking in the shadows for a very long time, and that would be true. But none of those figures we've removed tolerated their overt presence or activities. Have you by the way seen the fine mess that Libya is in? I mean, at what point, what does it take before we all admit that our ME policy has the region in flames? And I know there are plenty expressing it, but not near enough.
