Yeah. I'm rural, and we know what that means in SW. I started out in PA, stopped a few dozen other places here and over there, and ended up ri-chere.Also, SW Virginia, huh? Nice to see someone else representin', as the kids say.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

The group estimates that “approximately 20 journalists, both local and international, are currently missing in Syria,” it says on its website. “Many of them are believed to be held by Islamic State,” which ISIS calls itself...."

Most of the public probably wasn't aware that all those journalists were kidnapped and/or missing until Foley was beheaded.
"The purpose of terrorism is to strike fear into the hearts of opponents in order to win political concession."

International jouranlists, however, are in a very difficult career field. Aside from a handful of major net work superstars that make large amounts of money- Tom Brokaw is said to have chartered a private jet to report on the Tsunami, most reporters earn next to nothing.
The only way to get ahead is to get the stories. And for non CNN level reporters, that means taking chances with out body guards, "minders", and also means interviewing people who have not been pre screened and vetted.
These reporters can be pretty experienced with well thought out plans (Daniel Pearl). They also include complete amateurs like Amanda Lindhout, a cocktail waitress turned journalist who lasted three days in Somalia before getting kidnapped - fortunately not by jihaders, but by an Olde fashioned gang of extortionists and rapists.
