Poll: 71 percent say keep Redskin

You just worry about you, and leave me to worry about myself.

You quoted me. If you don't like your ignorant BS of a post being shown for the ugly selfish crap it is, then stop defending it.

I think they prefer to be called Indians or Native Americans.

I don't even like to use the term "native" because there is plenty of evidence to suggest that Europeans were the first in North America 17,000 years ago.

Then they're fragile people...

Is being made of glass and speaking for others a progressive prerequisite?

Is not understanding that racial stereotypes are bad for society, because they marginalize those not included, a prerequisite of your position? Yes, I believe it is.

Because you believe everyone is the same unless they agree with you then they can be degraded, shunned etc..

You're the person that thinks everyone is the same. My position is based on recognizing diversity so as not to marginalize members of a group.

You believe some negative racial stereotypes are true. So I think we can clearly see the level of ignorance your position comes from.

Please identify the "warmonger" element.

It's a depiction of a NA warrior. The mascot is a NA warrior. Not all NAs are warriors.

The warmonger element is seen when we consider context, which you appear unable to grasp.

If it makes you feel better, we'll ignore the context that smart people are aware of and pretend this exists in a vacuum.

It's wrong to stereotype a race as "fierce warriors".

Really? You mean like the "Screaming Eagles" of the 101st Airborne Division?

On the contrary. He's merely a Native American male. The "warmonger" imputation is your own personal contribution.

All Native American males were warriors, in war paint and on the warpath? Is that still true today?

You see, when you claim everyone in a race is warriors, you are -in fact- calling them warmongers.

There is in the logo no war paint or any connection to the war path or, indeed, anything warlike at all.

No, I just know the difference between dumb people and intelligent people - and I have no problem pointing that or the differences out.

You on the other hand seem to believe that we're all the same.

Some people use their brains and others use their primal instincts - American Indians don't meet that criteria but some races do, and I'm not going to shy away from explaining that.

There is a reason why I'm not genetically programmed to resort to violence for every disagreement...

 What races are?

Still waiting to learn about the "warmonger" element in the Redskins' logo.

You can't be serious. Have you seen the mascot or heard where the logo comes from?

But let's be honest. This is what some people like about them:

During most of this unsuccessful period, Marshall continually refused to integrate the team, despite pressure from The Washington Post and the federal government of the United States.[28] On March 24, 1961, Secretary of the Interior Stewart Udall warned Marshall to hire black players or face federal retribution. For the first time in history, the federal government had attempted to desegregate a professional sports team.[29]

And they consider using a racial slur and stereotyping a race to be another stand for racists.

I am completely serious, and your claims are entirely without foundation. The rest of your post is a desperate attempt to change the subject with an irrelevant smear.

That is your problem - you actually think others think something about "them.".

I don't..

It seems you're obsessed.

That's a very stupid strawman. But hey, you'll say anything to keep a racial slur and stereotype that demonizes NA history.

The logo is the depiction of a warrior. The mascot wears war paint, carries a tomahawk and is said to be on the warpath.

The entire depiction is warrior related, I'm not sure the depth of ignorance required to separate football from that image in the first place.

You deny it's a stereotype, even though the logo and mascot supposedly represent an entire race of people.

You deny NA is a race.

You deny everything, just to keep your treasured racial slur and stereotype.

It seems you're obsessed.

How many posts have you in this thread? You're obsessed with something, but I don't think it's changing the team's name that really interests you.

Yeah right, you probably couldn't tell the difference between a Native American, a Sicilian, Spaniard and a Mexican and you're trying to be some "spokesman."

Fast moving vehicles/people...
Cute dodge for sure, but really Mr Nick, what races are genetically inclined to be violent, and which ones aren't?

I'm not a spokesperson for anyone.

Racial stereotypes are bad for society. That's just a fact, and it doesn't need a spokesperson.

You cannot get around that fact, so you'll just deny having common sense.

My favorite personal story in this area concerns the University of Illinois, my graduate school alma mater. The UI athletic teams are the Fighting Illini, named for the Illinois Indians. For decades the Illini were symbolized by Chief Iliniwek, who appeared with the marching band at halftime of football games, and on other selected school occasions. A young Native American woman, a UI student, filed suit and in the course of legal back-and-forth the Chief was retired.

There is great irony in this. The Illinois were exterminated by the Sioux before white settlers came on the scene. The young woman who filed the suit is of Sioux descent. In erasing the Chief she completed the work of ethnic cleansing begun by her ancestors.

So the progressives can ban me for being allegedly racist...
