Honest cops will continue to serve and be respected by the people. Nuisance lawsuits will be thrown out anyway so it shouldnt matter. The only ones who need to hide behind sovereign immunity are the ones who abuse their authority.

It depends on the state. In my state they can but if they lose they have to pay all my (the defendent's) legal expenses.

    Anything else?

Ferguson protestors file $40M lawsuit against police | FOX2now.com
Just to be clear - I was not questioning your claim, and if you remember, I said earlier in this thread that I had heard the same thing.

I just respectfully asked if you had a link, as in did you have one handy. Personally, I don't give a **** about this law suit. I hope that if the claims of the people doing the suing are correct, that the lawsuit changes things ...

But - the reason I don't give a ****, is because instead of suing for change and bringing charges in criminal court, these people are suing for money, forty million dollars to be exact. I never like suits that ask for millions of dollars when millions of dollars of damage have not been done. If the cops had cut one of their hands or arms or legs off, then maybe. But $40 million of damage have not been done, and to me, this is just greed. If they had sued to get the police officers fired or the department put under some sort of court order to change their tactics, then I may give a ****. But they didn't. They just want money.

Also, I don't think they have a case anyway, based on what I know, as I've said before, not $40 million worth of a case.
Everything in your life is a reflection of a choice you have made. If you want a different result, don't blame someone else, or expect others to make a change, you should stop complaining and make a different choice. Remember, the circumstances of your birth don't determine the outcome of your life.

Some people take civil rights very lightly, as evidenced by I don't give a **** attitudes.

Personally, I take civil rights VERY seriously. MLK never sued for 40 million bucks.

If you give an honest read to what I posted, you will see that I support them fighting for their rights, just not for a get rich quick scheme.

40 million is meant to be punitive, and sends a warning to other civil rights violators who might be so inclined to repeat the same mistakes.

How is an assassinated person supposed to collect damages?

Who at McDonalds was assasinated? And, if you're referring to MLK, I was referring to his fight for civil rights and against people taking his civil rights from him.

Punitive would be a criminal charge or charges. Punitive would be a court order to have the state or some independent body oversee and review everything the police department does from now on. Punitive is not making someone rich (especially their attorneys) at the expense of the tax payers of that city. Remember, some 60%+- of that population are black - the tax payers. As are the companies in that community - tax payers. The city doesn't have $40 million bucks just sitting around to pay law suits. The tax payers will have to pay the bill. This suit is punitive to the tax paying citizens and businesses in that community, not to the cops.

That is why I said multiple time to you that a suit should be brought to force criminal charges or to force oversight of the department. Not to get money.

See, MLK was assassinated, not at Mc Donalds.

MLK didn't sue because when you're assassinated, you're dead, deceased.

People @ Mc Donalds in Ferguson allegedly had their civil and constitutional rights violated, and are seeking $40 million in restitution for having their rights violated. None of the Mc Donalds patrons were killed, thankfully. If they had been killed, it would be difficult for them to collect anything if they were killed.
