Re: Michael Sam released by Rams

probably late but he didn't get picked up by any other team on waivers.
i think he might make the practice squad but even that is looking iffy.

i hope he got his degree in something useful unless the canadian league takes him.

Wes Welker, the leading receiver in the NFL for five years, got a last minute D-1 offer at Texas Tech and wasn't even drafted by an NFL team.........Toby Gerhart, was given a two star 'fullback' rating coming out if high school even though he played RB in the California high school system and put up incredible rushing numbers. The only D-1 school to offer him a scholorship was White-friendly Stanford. He should have won the Heisman......see how all this works?
Look, this country is so segregated that it may be true most HS players are white, but many live in trailer trash small towns, hardly nfl material or D1 college for that matter. I know all too well. I'm from a county that was 98-99% white, that had plenty of white athletes, and they *all sucked*. No, they won't get any attention from national rankings, big surprise.

Most white pro athletes probably come from suburbs/upper middle class, places with a plethora of sports and ECs other than football to choose from, if their parents would even allow them to play such a dangerous sport. In contrast, many black pro athletes come from poor inner cities, where the best path out of death or prison is football. If they have any talent, they pursue it. Michael Sam is a great example of this, as he said in that 1st interview.

So what you end up with is a disproportionate # of highly talented players who are black. But your accusation makes no sense when their are also a ton of white players on every team, as anyone can see. Michael Sam is the *first* and *only* openly gay player in D1 or nfl. That is not remotely similar.

Yeah but it's diff with the nfl. They're several years behind the general population. I've heard this explanation, that many of them are from inner cities and had to be "man of the house" at a young age, and religion is more firmly rooted in their background.

I thought of adding "possibly with exception of the rookies this year" since there are indications of that, but it's still too early to matter, since few of them have any influence yet.

I prefer the after shower jacuzzi more than the workout. Its nice to hang out with the guys and talk about manly things.

In today's world, people aren't overly concerned about it....despite all of the homophobes efforts to desperately cling onto this argument. What is the one argument that you always still hear from these guys..."oh....the showers!!!!!". Most of us just laugh at their ignorance.

I never criticize someone for just being themselves, whatever the consequences along the way. No one should have to pretend to be someone they're not in order to satisfy the needs/desires of other people. I think we passed the "sexual awkwardness" in the dressing room stage when female reporters were allowed. The few players who might be uncomfortable simply need to get over themselves.

Sam is an undersized 7th round draft pick drafted by a team that is loaded with lots of good players at his position- from what I read he wasnt very good at special teams which is what most players in his draft range would be kept on the team for, this means that he is now a free agent and since injuries happen a lot in the NFL Im sure he will probably get picked up by another team sometime during the season. This media circus is ridiculous in a sport in which one's sexual orientation has got nothing to do with one's ability to play the game.

Chris Long would, however, so I'd be inclined to take his word for it.

    Tim-
Both are concepts founded in ignorance and fear.

What is very telling is the NP and the other homophobes were crying about "what about the showers" the whole time during the DADT debate. In reality....it hasn't been an issue in the slightest and the military hasn't collapsed because a gay man is in the showers. Just goes to show that the whole "shower" issue is hysteric hyperbole because they have no legitimate arguments anymore.
