Michael Sam released by Rams

We used to have two teams with the name Rough Riders - let's not try to analyze CFL team names any further.

Oh, there's that " institutionalized homophobia " that Ecofarm seems so preoccupied with.

I remember once when we were allowed to have a sense of humor.

I'm sorry, but I just can't get over the fact that some Canadian Football team thought that name " The Alloettes " was sufficient in nature to strike terror into the hearts of their enemies.

It's better than the "Magic" like they have in Orlando....

Actually, they take they're name from a Canadian Air Force unit in WWII -

Founded in 1942 in the Dishforth region of England, the 425 Squadron - the original birds of prey - was the first ever French Canadian unit as well as the 5th bombing unit in the Royal Canadian Air Force.

The squad was quickly nicknamed named ’’Alouettes” in honor of the Gallic native bird known for its toughness and its high-altitude flights.

Sorry, all I can think of is the Children's song I learned back in High School French

" Aloette, gentille Alouette ''
" Aloette je te plumarai "....

Granted, its has pretty graphic lyrics but its all I can think of.

Still better than the "Magic."

But I think of that too. The graphic lyrics are what the singer is going to do to the "Alouette." Pluck it's head, it's beak, etc....

Yea, it would be a great fight song for their competitors fans.

Ridiculous.

He's a marginal to average talent. There's dozens upon dozens of such guys all across the NFL's practice squads or back end of the 53 man roster. There's also hundreds of them that wash out every year.

If he made a team it wouldn't be because of "PC bull****", just like if he's not picked up it's not because of "homophobic bull****". Push comes to shove, these decisions are going to be made as it relates to the football teams ability to win...not prejudices or politics.

Sam is a better fit in a 4-3 then 3-4, that cuts out about half of the teams in the league that are likely interested in him. Teams in general tend to be more apt to practive squad their own guys at the start of a season than another teams guys, so the fact the Rams are deep at DE making it less necessary to keep extras on the PS hurts him. He played very well comparitive to other 3rd stringers in a live game situation, but was average at teams. Unfortunately for him 3rd stringers are more likely to be playing special teams than they are to be in a live defensive situation.

There's plenty of reasons...FOOTBALL reasons....to think he'll be picked up sometime this year or carried by a team into camp next year. There's also plenty of football reasons to think he won't be picked up. The ridiculous, ignorant, and just non-sensical need by both sides of this debate to scream that the other sides claim of bias isn't true but their sides claim of bias is the reason things are/would happen is just laughable.

No, calling him an average talent is what is ridiculous.

He was picked up by the single biggest spectacle in professional sports - JERRY JONES. He wasn't picked up for football reasons and you're kidding yourself if you think he's an average talent. We wouldn't be having this conversation if not for his sexuality. The ridiculous, ignorant, and just nonsensical need to defend his lack of talent is what is just laughable. He's just not an average talent. That's not a knock against gay people or even Michael Sam. It's not an insult. He's just not an average talent. But unfortunately he'll forever be known as the GAY Michael Sam, so, saying he's not an average talent means you hate gay people. It's stupid. Really, really stupid.

are you saying he is a below average talent? That is absurd. to make that claim so early in a guys career says a lot about you and nothing about him.

The only thing I agree with, is we would not be having this conversation if he was not gay. 7th round draft picks are typically not talked about until they are arrested

I know, I know. He's going to Canton and saying otherwise is proof that a person hates gay people.

never in the past has an SEC defensive player of the year not been on a roster right out of college. I don't know who the hell you are, but if you actually think Sam does not have the skillset to be worthy of a practice squad you don't have a ****ing clue about anything and are probably a homophobe

No, calling him an average talent is what is ridiculous.

And you base that off what?

I'm basing mine off his actual tape now at an NFL level, where he played very well against 2nd and 3rd stringers which suggests that he's at least on par with 2nd and 3rd stringers at the NFL level...which is a pretty average talent. He's one of twelve players with 2.5 or more sacks this preseason. 10 others are on a roster, 1 other is on a practice squad. Being in that kind of company is not below average. He's at least an average talent as it relates to pass rushing. Is that going to cause him to stick? Good chance it won't, since average talent at pass rushing makes you a bottom of the roster guy and most bottom of the roster guys need to be good at Teams, and he's not. But its entirely reasonable to watch his tape and suggest he's an average talent.
