Ukraine to End to Non-Aligned Status, Seeks NATO Membership

Ukraine has begun the process of discarding its 'non-bloc' status and will seek NATO membership. While it is unlikely that Ukraine in its present state and given present circumstances would qualify for NATO membership it does herald a significant shift that would see it receive many attendant benefits including greater military aid and security cooperation. Perhaps Russia will be successful in carving out its ethnic enclaves in eastern Ukraine, but it will have done so at the cost of seeing NATO's influence once again advancing eastward. Hurrah!

The headline should read, "Ukraine will align with anybody to get Russia out of it's country."

Other headlines read, "Ukraine embraces oldest philosophy, The Enemy of my Enemy is my Friend."
 
Seems unlikely this could finalize quick enough to beat russia to the punch.
Its not like the rest of NATO wants to go to the mat with Vlad. If they did it would already have happened.

Um, that was happening, whether Russia responded or not. I suppose its better to resist something that is counter to ones interest and fail then lay down to failure. I'm glad to see someone finally cough up the truth of the fact that the entire affair is further NATO expansion.

As a Canadian and proud member of NATO, I would welcome Ukraine joining the alliance. Outside of Ukraine itself and Russia, Canada has the largest population of Ukrainians in the world and these are good, honest, hard working people who deserve our respect and assistance.
