Census figures show more than one-third of Americans receiving welfare benefits | Fox News

Newly released Census data reveals nearly 110 million Americans – more than one-third of the country – are receiving government assistance of some kind.

The number counts people receiving what are known as “means-tested” federal benefits, or subsidies based on income. This includes welfare programs ranging from food stamps to subsidized housing to the program most commonly referred to as “welfare,” Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.

This should be shocking to everyone, no matter which way they lean.

The Democratic Slave Plantation is recruiting more recipients by opening the border.

VA benefits are means tested. Does this include the VA? There is millions right there.

...And FAFSA for college students. The way tuition has sky-rocketed, pretty much every student in the country needs whatever they can find, and quite a few qualify.

It's not surprising to me, given the combination of poor economy, aging population, stagnant wages, astronomical college expense, and the VA, as mentioned above.

Times have been hard for a while now. reports abound about how our middle class is shrinking.
Our various businesses are doing well enough considering, but the market for their goods and services has been shrinking.

umm

I mean it's sad how so many Americans suddenly became lazy, good-for-nothing welfare queens all at once as if by coincidence.

well, you cant really expect Fox news to tell the whole truth...
It certainly seems problematic, but bear in mind this may include things like Veterans' benefits and college aid. "Receiving government assistance of some kind" is rather vague.

Yeah those darn lazy disabled and elderly people.

He stated Fox News doesn't tell 'the whole truth'. I replied that several news outlets practice the same kind of journalism. Do you dispute that?

Well, a lot of the time, it doesn't. He never said that MSNBC does. So why on the defensive about it?

Nope, I don't.

Of course that statement is shocking, that's the whole purpose of the headline. The question should be is the reality of the situation actually as shocking but the article is written in such a way as to make it impossible to judge that and deliberately avoids referencing any of its figures. The tabloid media don't want you to be educated and informed, they want you to be shocked and scared. It makes it easier to sell you their trash that way.

Not for corrupt Democrats.

The more people on welfare, the more votes they get. It's part of the reason, IMO, why the Dem head honchos keep pushing for more and more social programs.

People on welfare are often afraid of losing that welfare and which party is usually more in favor of not decreasing/increasing welfare?

Hmmmmmm....

Fox lies and says it is fair and balanced. That is wrong. If every other news organization lies too does that make Fox any less wrong? Two wrongs dont make a right, seems the RW has lost track of what they should have learned in kindergarten or Sunday School.
They are not any more biased than MSNBC or several other well known media outlets. Give me a break.

Does it matter? Fox is still wrong. What ever happen to the party of morals and ethics?

Look... people that lean towards the left politically generally try to paint Fox News as the black sheep of journalism standards. All I am saying is that they are not being intellectually honest. Several media outlets practice the same kind of journalism. They do it for ratings.

But no one did that. So why on the offensive for Fox? It's true, isn't it?

Fox's motto "Fair and Balanced" is a lie. It goes down hill from there and has millions of disciplies that belevie every word like it is gospel. This is just another example of yellow journalism. Not an outright lie, but certainly not hte truth, either.

Well... I am not one of their 'disciples' and I am a righty. I view several news sources (mostly web based). I would just like it for those that would point the finger of yellow journalism at Fox News would also point the finger at the other ones that practice the very same kind of dishonest journalism. Fact of the matter is that they don't. And that is not being intellectually honest IMHO.

Semper Fi.

Semper Fi brother. Part of my problem is I live in an area that is really really conservative. if I stop by the local bar for lunch there is a very good chance Fox is on TV, so I am kinda sensitive to it. I never ever see MSNBC or really any other news out let on in public. It is Fox and ESPN around here.

Journalistic standards from the big media moguls went out the window some time ago. Honestly, why even bring this up? If you want to know the whole truth on a given story you have to do independent research on your own. It has been that way for several years now.

Well, yeah. The reason I bring it up is because for some reason you're defending Fox when no one ever said anything about any other news org, as though it's any better.
