Compared to the nearly 4 billion deficit by Doyle.. This is a drop in the bucket which will be cleared up prior to the end of the fiscal year.

My state has a 300 million dollar shortfall. CT. Democrat Governor. Democrat Senate. Democrat Congress.

welp, looks like it's time to fleece the teachers again. if we paid them $2.13 an hour plus tips, we could close that gap right up. plus, then they'd have to be extra good teachers to get the tips.

Teachers should be paid as what they are. Babysitters. They only deserve $3 an hour. - Democratic Underground

Isn't that just the annual coffee budget for the legislature?

I remember when that was a lot of money for a state to be short, now, not so much.

Careful! The article referenced in the OP is in regards to the General Fund. You will find that the Illinois General Fund deficit is less than $3 billion iirc.
It is not very unreasonable that the rich should contribute to the public expense, not only in proportion to their revenue, but something more than in that proportion.

So you are saying there is tremendous progress happening?
Walker campaign spokeswoman Alleigh Marre pointed to the $3.6 billion budget shortfall Walker inherited from Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle in 2011. Burke served as Doyle's Commerce Department secretary for nearly three years.

"Wisconsin can't afford to go back to the same policies that failed us in the past with Mary Burke," Marre said.

The two-year budget passed by the Republican-controlled Legislature and signed by Walker in 2013 ended the first year with a $724 million surplus. But with Thursday's shortfall, than cushion is now just $443 million.
