9 year old girl kills instructor accidentally with UZI

Didn't look like the girl had any previous shooting experience either. I'm all for teaching children how to shoot, I think in a controlled and supervised environment it can teach them to be responsible with guns early on, but this...this was just plain stupid. Full-grown adults have problems holding onto UZIs, giving one to a 9 year old girl with zero shooting experience brings on a whole new level of stupidity.

This is pretty sad. I feel bad for the kid and what she must be going through right now. :(

The instructor, though, can go to hell. You can tell he was doing it because he thought it would be funny, that's why he was having it recorded. Similar idea to the woman who got hit in the head with a 50 cal Desert Eagle. It was intended to be another "hur hur" video. Nobody is laughing though.

Yeesh. Who on Earth thought that was a good idea?

Full auto can be difficult for a full grown man to handle if he's lacking experience, let alone a nine year old girl.

Sad events like this are just sad. No political debate should come of it, but it will.

Yes, Sub-Machine Guns will climb up on you if you're not familiar with shooting them or too weak to control them.

Bad call on the instructors part and not the girls fault what so ever.

WRT to the instructor, while he seems to have exercised extremely poor judgement I don't think he was the one filming it. The video was, apparently, shot by the girls parents.

Unfortunately you are right. That is why I put the disclaimer in about this is not about guns rights. There should bi-partisan agreement that this was stupid.

Exactly. You can't put this on the instructor completely, the parent ultimately were the ones who made the call.

I think there is legitimate scope for some debate about training of instructors and rules around young children using guns. You'd be setting a dangerous president if any incident involving firearms is automatically closed down for discussion. Obviously the stupid generalist rants (from all sides) about guns are a waste of time but that doesn't mean there aren't elements that are worthy of intelligent discussion. The only question is whether anyone relevant is capable of it.

And I think Uzia are espescially prone to climb. This, and other control problems with Uzis, led many nations to reject them in favor of German submachine guns for elite hostage rescue teams etc. This was despite Uzis appearing first.

In fact, I think the German MP-5 has become so popular that it is the global standard for special rescue teams etc.

Yes you can, the guy was the INSTRUCTOR, an "expert" he should have damn well put a stop to it and refused when the parent brought this child to the range to shoot an Uzi and told them in no uncertain terms it was dangerous and stupid as hell.

I don't know everything that transpired but it looks like the girl got almost no instruction before the weapon was set to auto. The instructor was also in the wrong position to help her control the weapon. He is the one the parents were relying on and he failed.

I know, it was like one shot then let's try auto with absolutely no explanation of what a big difference that is.

I have to some what disagree with you on this. I don't know too many parents who would enroll their kids in anything that has serious consequences without educating themselves. I myself would have told the instructor that they should assist my daughter in holding the Uzi.

Agreed. I was only thinking about the gun rights aspect of it.

Exactly my thoughts. Her parents were responsible for her, not the instructor. Nobody in their right mind would encourage a 9 year old to shoot an Uzi. It's a long way from that to a small pistol.

Her life is forever going to be scarred by this incident. I feel terrible for her and for the family of the instructor who was killed.

I wonder if they sold it?

The only thing that could have helped this is if the parents started training their children at the age of 7 with life sized toy uzis that simulated a real uzi. That way when they get to high school there will be more accuracy in gunning down the teachers and fellow students.

This is just crazy. When I was a kid in the Boy Scouts, our troop had an NRA training class, and it was hours before we even got our hands on a rifle. What in the hell was this instructor thinking?

The instructor was well within his rights to say NO, not gonna happen. Sure the parents were idiots, but the instructor was supposedly knowledgeable (or else why would he be an instructor), he should have known better, now he's dead.

He wasn't. Oh lets let a 9 yo girl shoot an Uzi, it'll be fun seeing her reaction and her dad can catch it on tape, hehe. I feel sick thinking about what that girl is going through now.

I do like the MP-5

I'm sure there's someone who's interested in criticizing the dead man's actions. That person isn't me.
