ISIS Demands $6.6M Ransom for 26-Year-Old American Woman.....

The ONLY thing the GAO pointed to as being illegal was the failure to give congress the customary 30 day notice. Not the trade itself. Though pointing that out isn't necessarily meant to be a support of the trade.

Heya Glen. :2wave: Yeah they kill this woman.....they will have more than the US to worry about. They had best not even think about doing it publicly. I think that would bring immediate action and from places these terrorists wouldn't expect.

The GAO stated it was illegal because of the Congressional Bill passed that limited the movement of any GITMO prisoners without approval by Congress or that advanced notification wasn't given.

As for the Taliban...we didn't recognize them as a legitimate government of Afghanistan but there were the government of Afghanistan.

The nonpartisan Government Accountability Office said the Defense Department failed to notify the relevant congressional committees at least 30 days in advance of the exchange — a clear violation of the law — and used $988,400 of a wartime account to make the transfer. The GAO also said the Pentagon's use of funds that hadn't been expressly appropriated violated the Antideficiency Act......snip~


That's Right.....the Taliban wasn't the ruling government. Which no one recognized them.....other than the people of Afghanistan.

Our policy should be is if you are not on official government business then you are on your own when you leave our borders. Especially if you go to a hostile country or region of the world.

I like that statement. The only change I would make is for people who can't follow road signs and end up in Mexico.

Heya USC. :2wave: Actually BO has jumped. As he started Recon flights over Syria late last nite or early this morning. Without Assad's approval. Which I put that thread up earlier. That was after finding out that The Terrorists have in their possession Scud Missiles they took from Assad. Also whatever other ballistic missiles he had.

Sure, but then, ISIS doesnt care about her, or her parents. Thats why they didnt offer the parents a sweatheart deal. This is about shaming a president and ultimately a nation.

But really...ISIS and other fundamentalists groups have been raping and beheading women and children for decades. Why would one more woman matter to those that have already managed to turn a blind eye?
 
I don't mean to be insensitive to this woman's family, BUT, sorry, no deal. I don't care what you travel to these hot places for, you should only go with the knowledge that if you get kidnapped, you're on your own.

Yeah, but then think about how many opportunities to go to war we'd pass up! I don't think the defense contractors would get behind that one Jamesrage. And they've a pretty large lobby.

Oh don't pretend that seeing Obama shamed would jerk a tear from your eye. Otherwise your question to me makes no sense. I never offered up that IS would give a **** her or her parents. Only that her parents would have a different take on whether any ransom should be paid. But they have been in the past and will be in the future as Pete pointed out. It's just not advertised.

Heya VM. :2wave: Well they never got to use Social Media and TV to show their point before.....plus put their intimidation out there. But if they did so.....I think they will stir up more than what they have now.


They were bragging about how many they were recruiting in for the month. Might just wake up to find all sorts out hunting them down. Anywhere and anytime.

I think everybody diminishes the amount of hatred that the US has attracted by being in the ME and killing folks there for twenty plus years. IS has plenty of recruiting power based upon that alone. Sooner or latter people from that region are going to seek a level of revenge on Americans that dwarfs 9/11. Hatred by people that have been wronged by a very heavy handed invader can be very powerful and motivational.
