House Republicans will pay up to $350,000 to sue President Obama, according to a contract Chair of the House Administration Committee Candice Miller (R-Mich.) signed Monday with Washington legal firm BakerHostetler.
The GOP leadership intends to sue the president over the alleged abuse of his executive authority, particularly over the changes in the employer mandate under the Affordable Care Act.

And this is nothing compared to what Obama has spent on these goodies: Benghazi, Fast and Furious, the IRS targeting scandal, the NSA scandal, the AP phone records scandal, the VA hospitals scandal, the Stimulus Package, Solyndra, illegal immigration, ObamaCare, unimaginable National Debt, and, well, you get the idea...but will these money spending and effort be successful?

The stupidity... it hurts...

All of that is a waste of money, however Obama can not spend money that Congress does not give him to spend. Both parties throw away enormous amounts of tax dollars.

You should probably note that it said that House Republicans will spend that money. IE: They're spending it out of the republican parties coffers. Not tax money but money donated to the republican party.

How else is the legislative branch supposed to stop the executive branch from violating the law? Or start enforcing the law? One could argue that even if they win they have no physical power to force the Exec to actually obey the decision, but maybe it would then be grounds for impeachment. Though how could they enforce that?

Ridiculous waste of money. Political theater.

The lawsuit or all the other stuff mentioned that Obama did? He has spent considerably more than the cost of the lawsuit on vacations alone.

That should be amended. He is not supposed to be able to spend without Congress, but he does.

The article that's linked to says that the House will pay a law firm $500.00/day for this law suit.

The GOP doesn't own the House of Representatives.

Explain that.

So that excuses wasting more money? Look if this was trying to impeach the president, I wouldn't agree with it but I would have more respect for it. This lawsuit accomplishes nothing and is just a waste of money. It's all a game of political theater and is a waste of money. Your excuse for this is basically "Well he did it, so we can to".

By following the process set down in the constitution and impeaching the president if they have a case.

Pretty frickin'simple.

I don't expect to see that happen anytime soon.

The Republicans are doing it out of their own pockets, not public funds. I support your decision to waste your own money on whatever you want to. Impeachment would never clear the Senate, and if it did we would end up with President Biden.

Neither do I, because it is impractical. But the President has encouraged it anyway so that he could use it to ridicule the Republican party.

I didn't say they didn't have a right to, I said it was a waste of money regardless of whether it is public funds or not. It still will accomplish ZERO. Those are facts and will hurt the GOP more than help them. People are tired of political games and the GOP is playing a big one right now. Instead of focusing on jobs and the economy, the GOP is focusing on suing Obama. Well, the GOP has snatched defeat from victory before, they are quite good at it.

I have to disagree with that. A president can not spend any money without Congress giving them the money.

Nope, this is just political theater.

I have to disagree with that. A president can not spend any money without Congress giving them the money.

And therein lies the problem. Besides being a waste, they are not using the powers given to them by the Constitution. They are dumping their responsibilities on the Judicial branch. I expect they will just say that they are not going to touch it, there's no basis for the suite, or something along those lines. They have the power of the purse strings, and have refused to use it. They can't just ask another branch to do their dirty work.

ummm...

You obviously haven't been keeping up with the things that Obama has done...the things that have prompted this very lawsuit by the Republicans. For example, Obama HAS, in fact, spent money that was not given to him by Congress.

U.S. GAO - Department of Defense--Compliance with Statutory Notification Requirement

These violations outlined in this GAO report are not part of the Republican lawsuit, but they certainly should be.

In regard to the topic of this thread, I think the money is well spent...even if it takes till after Obama is out of Office to determine that he has disregarded our laws and our Constitution during the course of his Presidency...because it will deter Presidents who come after him from following his example.

Where do you get that? This recent article says it is taxpayer funded.
Taxpayers Will Dish Out $350,000 for the House to Sue Obama - The Wire

The American tax-payers will foot the bill for filing and prosecuting this lawsuit. Whether or not you agree with suing the president, you are paying for this legal action. Interestingly, the American tax-payers will also foot the bill for defending themselves against the lawsuit. Regardless of your like or dislike of the president, you will be paying the costs of defending the president from the lawsuit.
How Are We Paying For This Lawsuit, Mr. Speaker?

True, but people seem to think that is worse. Challenging certain actions in court is a simple method, and also constitutional.

Bring a lawsuit IS constitutional. Any person can do it. The purpose of the judicial branch is to settle disputes under the constitution.

I don't remember all this hand wringing on the left when congressional Democrats sued President Bush over his cancellation of the ABM treaty.

House Democrats Sue President Bush Over Withdrawal From ABM Treaty (Desperation Tactics 2002)

Nor when Nancy Pelosi was threatening to sue the White House over the Attorney General's refusal to take up a House motion to investigate President Bush.

Pelosi Pledges to Sue White House Over AG's Refusal to Investigate Bush Advisers | Fox News

"Waste of time and money" I hear them bellow now, yet they were cheering from the bleachers when the shoe was on the other foot and it was that Satanic Bush that was being sued.

Better yet explain how they found a law firm to work for $500 per day and not an hour.

Ah you are correct. I read wrong. My apologies.
