'Small Handful' of Americans Believed to Be Fighting With ISIS in Iraq - NBC News

Other officials tell NBC News that a small number of Americans – about a dozen at any given time -- are believed to be embedded and fighting with ISIS in Syria, and that some may have crossed into Iraq.

U.S. intelligence and counter terrorism officials have previously estimated that up to 100 Americans have tried to join groups in Syria fighting to topple the regime of Bashar Assad, and that about 70 have actually made it.

There you go, more future homegrown terrorists being created thanks to our nation's foreign policy of military interventions. And you people want more war?

Anyone who joins ISIS, should be killed - regardless of their nationality.

This isn't breaking news. I've posted about this countless times when I was discussing ISIS. It's been known for at least a month now.

What is sad is that anyone, regardless of nationality, is joining these savages. What has happened in their lives? How can we possibly make excuses for them?

Much like the KKK did when they were in power in some states, they raise children under that ideology. They in turn have more children, etc and the vicious cycle keeps on going. When you are raised with just this ideology, it is going to be very hard to turn away from it.

ISIS is only allowed to operate in Iraq because of the instability we caused. Saddam may have been an enemy, but he was the enemy we knew. We owe it to the Iraqi people to take care of this problem we have created, and then swiftly get out.

That's just it, there is no "swift" way to take care of this problem. Not with our current military tactics at least. The only way to take care of ISIS is complete and utter obliteration and that would include civilians I'm afraid and the U.S. is no longer prepared to do that.

ISIS reminds me of the Japanese and how they fought in WWII. They won't convert, change, or be reasoned with. The only thing ISIS offers is "convert or die".

How many times do we try and truly understand our enemies and their points of view? When is our first reaction ever to sit down with them and give them the opportunity to be heard? It may not make a lick of difference but It would be nice for us to try a less aggressive first approach for a change. War will always be there if less violent means fail.

I wouldn't doubt they hold us in the same regard.
I am sure the USA has killed a hundred times more innocent civilians in its history than ISIS ever will. Do you hold our country to the same standards?

I sometimes wonder how the USA would look today had the prevailing view of today regarding military action existed at the time of the civil war and Sherman's march up the coast.

It's definitely an interesting world where we're searching for new answers to old questions.

Oh, good gawd. You'd be missing a head before you finished your first complete sentence.
