(CNN) -- A 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck Northern California early Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
Eighty-seven patients have been treated or are being treated at Queen of the Valley Hospital following the early morning earthquake, according to the city of Napa. "There are three major injury cases," the city said on its website.
One "young child," a girl, is in critical condition, Napa Division Fire Chief John Callanan said at a news conference. She was hurt when a fireplace collapsed.
It was the strongest earthquake to hit the Bay Area since 1989, when a quake struck during the World Series.

Been through a few of these. It rattles you to your core.

This was centered near Napa. Damn, I bet a lot a great wine just got spilled!

It is horrible to hear and I hope that everybody gets better.

Earthquakes are horrible, we had one here once but fortunately I slept through it until my mother came and woke me up freaked out a bit that there had been an earthquake.

I hate to hear that. I hope everyone recovers.

We had a small earthquake here in NY a few years ago. However, I couldn't imagine going through one like that.

I saw that this morning. I'm hoping there wasn't any big fires started. That with the drought conditions would be disastrous.

I prefer hurricanes with weeks of notice. How anyone tolerates earthquakes and tornadoes (especially the shark ones) is beyond me.

Born and raised in the Gulf Coast.

I remember when we used to board up our Windows, make sure we had the needed supplies and ride hurricanes out.

Then Katrina blew through and then the media sensationalized every Hurricane after that for the next few years.

Yes....I could have done without Hurricane Katrina. But then mother nature has something nasty to toss at pretty much every region in the US.

I am the exact opposite.

I have been through a great many earthquakes, including the Sylmar (6.6, 1971), Northridge (6.7, 1994), and Hector Mine (7.1, 1999).

And living in Vallejo, I was maybe 10 miles form the epicenter of this one. 3:30 AM, bed shaking all over, just laid there until it stopped, calmly got dressed in the dark, grabbed my flashlight, and checked for damage. All we lost was a bottle of soy sauce.

I was back asleep within 30 minutes.

Now hurricanes, I never want to go through one of those ever again. Been through of many when I was in North Carolina and Alabama (including Hugo, Frances, Ivan, Jeanne, Katrina, Dennis), and I am incapable of sitting through one of those sober.

I will take 30 seconds of shaking over one of those damned things any day of the century. At least quakes only happen in one area every 20 years or so, and are done within 2 minutes.

And at least in the US do not cause hundreds or thousands of fatalities.

One doesn't sit through a serious hurricane (surge range especially), one goes elsewhere. Good luck avoiding an earthquake or tornado shark.

If possible, yes. And if you are living along the coast, you should leave the area or you are an idiot.

From 2003-2007, I lived about 60 miles north of Panama City, well inland where storm surge was not an issue. But there was nowhere to go to. Only direction to go was North, not much of a help.

So Scotch was a mandatory item in my Hurricane Kit.

What good does that do in an earthquake or tornado?

Can live in it, even through loss of power, water, and gas. If need be can evacuate to a safe area in it.

My grandparents were in Oakland in 1989 when the big one hit there. In a campground, in their motorhome.

They had the biggest rig, so people would pitch in and provide gas so they could keep their generator running. They powered quite a few people in the park, in exchange for fuel. If we lost all services or our house was unsafe, we would just move into the motorhome. Water, sewer, generator, we have lived in it for months at a time in the past.
