This is horrible news for Muslim men in the U.K.

It's also patently ridiculous. When is it the responsibility for the woman to walk away from the relationship?

And does this apply to wives who "control" their husbands?
On the surface the idea of trying to promote respect seems like common sense.

    But here:

Theresa May, the Home Secretary, published proposals for a new offence of “domestic abuse” designed to criminalise men who bully, cause psychological harm or deny money to their partners.

The law would make the worst cases of non-violent “controlling behaviour” a jailable offence.

Exact terms of the offence are yet to be defined, but it could involve humiliating, frightening or intimidating a partner, keeping them away from friends or family or restricting their access to money.
Quite a bit of this above could be self-imposed if she's dealing with psychological and emotional issues.

And in the US a HUGE number of women (and men) have psychological and emotional issues that they're actively seeking help for. So - for me, it would be a lot of 'sending innocent guys to jail who never did anything wrong - ever' all because 'their wives are depressed or manic'.
A screaming comes across the sky.
It has happened before, but there is nothing to compare it to now.

It's the UK, everything is illegal. Heck they banned the peter rabbit book because it had middle class rabbits in it. Common sense will take over and this will be reversed soon just like the myriad of stupid stuff the UK periodically seems to engage in.

So me and my wife took our son for his 6 month checkup or whatever it was.

And once we'd given him his injections and done some tests and what have you, the female doctor asks me to leave the room with my son so she can speak to my wife.

Some of it was about asking questions for post partem depression but at one point she flat out asked me whether I was abusing her without any indication said thing was happening... what if I was the one being abused and not only am I not being asked but I'm kicked out of the room in totality.

And the funniest thing was I didn't even think about it that way until I told some people and a woman pointed it out to me.
Well, as we move more and more to federalizing health care we're going to see more and more of this.

It's a full on nanny state, why would we expect anything less than full on nannying?

Well this was in Canada through a private company that contracts out to the Provincial Healthcare system... so no.

So what you're getting at is that this is something those of us in the lower 48 can look forward too as we move more and more to a centralized system?

No I'm saying has nothing to do with federalization.

    Far from it.

In the NHS in England no one ever asked something like that to my mom who'd just had Twins.

    From the OP...

Theresa May, the Home Secretary, published proposals for a new offence of “domestic abuse”
Hopefully there are some in the UK government who haven't yet contracted "the stupid" and can block this.

No. This is already standard protocol at every clinic in the US that I've ever heard of or been to in the past decade. I have been asked every time I've gone for any reason, and so has every woman I know. The abuse question is omnipresent in any healthcare which involves women, private or not. This has nothing to do with "socialism."

I had one girlfriend that I lived with for about a year and a half that thought fist fighting was foreplay. She had four years of martial arts. The second fight I had to knock her cold because she wouldn't stop charging me and clipped me in the throat. After she came to she tried to get a gun out of the bedroom closet to shoot me with. I got out of that relationship right after the second fight. Something about crossing that line once that makes some folks think it is a precedence for bad behavior. There isn't a monopoly for nut cases when it comes to gender.
