Police officer appears to threaten journalist in Ferguson

Police officer appears to threaten journalist in Ferguson - The Washington Post

August 18, 2014 1:40 PM EDT A Ferguson police officer appears to threaten a local journalist on Sunday night, with the incident recorded on camera. A police officer can be heard shouting, "get the f--k out of here and keep that light off or you're getting shelled with this." (KARG Argus Radio/Mustafa Hussein)

The Washington Post later expanded on the incident:

Officer appears to threaten cameraman covering chaos in Ferguson - The Washington Post

"Get the f--k out of here and keep that light off or you're getting shelled with this," an officer appeared to shout at Mustafa Hussein, the operator of the Argus RadioLivestream channel, "You're in our way!"
Prior to the incident, Hussein could be seen using a light to get a better view of the scene, but did not appear to be directly blocking police activity. Another journalist on the ground could be heard in the recording calling the police reaction "heinous."

They're proving everyone of their critics right. They are attacking the media, they do not want their oppression to be recorded. They do not want their aggression to be shown to the public later. This is the police state that people are so worried about.

This isn't the first or only incident either. They've targeted press with tear gas, and then dismantled their equipment as soon as they ran away from the gas. The first amendment is taking quite the beating down in Ferguson.

I saw this as it actually happened. You can see events live, as they unfold in Ferguson, at KARG Argus Radio. It was the Argus reporter who was threatened, and the cop who threatened him actually pointed his gun at the reporter's head too.

They're really just kicking it out of the ballpark in Ferguson. They've rabidly attacked just about anyone who can record the events as they unfold. There are terrorists in Syria who have more respect for the media than some of these cops.

They are doing more than that. Last night they brought in the heavy military equipment again, then turned on their sirens, in an attempt to provoke the crowd into rioting. Members of the clergy along with other standup members of the community, kept it from happening. The military vehicles then left the scene.

Good Lord people that isn't a threat. The police were getting shot at by protesters and the police warned that the light was drawing attention and the reporters would be targeted along with the police. The incredibly stupid reporter was illuminating targets with their light. I would be incredibly pissed at the idiots too.

I think the media is taking notice of the fact that photographers are getting arrested. It use to be that photographers were pretty much allowed freeroam even in places like Vietnam and Iraq. Now they're being manhandled and pushed around by a zealous police department.

I don't know, if what Danarhea said is true, I would think that pointing a gun to a reporter's head would be a threat.

I'm not really all that concerned about a single officer's threat to one member of the media. If that's the best example the media can put forward of officials' abuse, cry me a river.

Have you seen the coverage of these night protests? There are media swarming everywhere, in and out through the protestors, getting in the face of officers as they try to take arrestees away . . . I value the freedom of the press, absolutely, but this type of aggressive media behavior in a tense situation is unwarranted and not at all what the freedom of the press is about.
