St. Louis County police relieved of duty in Ferguson

Meet the Missouri Highway State Patrol captain who is taking over in Ferguson - The Washington Post

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon (D) has given control of security operations in Ferguson to Missouri State Highway Patrol. Capt. Ronald S. Johnson, who heads the highway patrol’s troop in the region, and will now direct the law enforcement response in the riot-riven city.
“We are going to have a different approach and have the approach that we’re in this together,” Johnson told reporters Thursday. “I understand the anger and fear that the citizens of Ferguson are feeling, and our officers will respect both of those.”

I think this is nothing more than a publicity stunt to make a situation that stinks of corruption, double standards and shady investigating seem less corrupt and shady and... double standard-ish (I didn't know how to make it into an adjective, sue me)?.... Why did it take Jay Nixon 3 days to acknowledge that police had responded violently to everyone, including those who were peacefully protesting? Why is Ronald J. Johnson being presented as the new head honcho when he still has to report to Major J. Bret Johnson? This stinks of a Governor trying to save face over the ****ty way this situation has been handled in general.

Ron Johnson is apparently the head of the State Highway Patrol in the greater St. Louis area. The Major Bret Johnson looks to be head of the entire State Highway Patrol, i.e. Ron Johnson is Bret Johnson's direct report.

Regardless Capt. Johnson has very quickly deescalated the situation. Going by Twitter this is the first night of peaceful protests & there isn't a single cop decked out in riot gear / armored personnel vehicles in the vicinity.

Guess all it took was bringing in someone from the area + having him listen to the community ( i.e. "serve the community," as the police should ) for everyone's heads to cool.

St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Robert McCulloch Thursday night blasted the decision by Gov. Jay Nixon to replace St. Louis County Police control of the Ferguson situation with the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

“It's shameful what he did today, he had no legal authority to do that," McCulloch said. "To denigrate the men and women of the county police department is shameful."

I normally trust Feds less than locals, but in this case the local PD were a bunch of morons and needed to be ousted.

There are at least three very credible eye witnesses to the murder of Michael Brown.
Yet no charges and no arrest has taken place.
Missouri state law says that all police reports are public records.
Yet the name of the cop in the murder of Michael brown has been kept secret.
Ferguson and St Louis County police over-reacted to the protests with military, shows and exercise, of force.
The Ferguson and St Louis County police did their best to suppress news coverage of the police riot to the point of arresting members of the press wearing press credentials and dismantling cameras and lights of news crews. Even tear-gassing some news crews who were no where near any protesters.
More than half of the revenue generated by the town of Ferguson comes from traffic stops.
Nine out of ten people who end up in traffic court in Ferguson are black.
Fifty two of the fifty five policemen on the St Louis County police department are white.
There has been a police riot every night that the St Louis County police were in charge.
The Missouri state police took jurisdiction away fro the St Louis County police and peaceful protest took place without incident.
The Ferguson and St Louis County police are the ones who come out of this whole thing smelling like ****.

1.) Not having gotten to specific witnesses/suspects does not mean that they wont.
2.) You have no idea of whom they have interviewed at this time. The Officer involved?; The store clerk?; Other witnesses, etc...

It was his approach! He went in without the mask, the tank, baton etc. He was approachable and treated everyone respectfully!

Imagine that, we have a guy with some common sense at the helm and things already start calming down. A lot of this issue was caused by incompetence.
