Obama's vacations and golf outings, by the numbers

All Presidents takes lots of time off - if you can even call it off, most of them are probably closer to working vacations. Obama's predecessor was on vacation at least twice as much according to the article. I don't begrudge any of them a single minute of it. It's got to be an uber stressful job. I
do not want an overly stressed person driving the boat.

Or exercising control over the USA's massive nuclear arsenal.

We all know the Libbos weren't nearly as understanding when Bush was president.

The righties support their people , and the lefties support their people.

That's the way that it works all over this planet.

It's been that way for a long time and it's not going to change anytime soon..

I don't begrudge anyone vacation time, particularly when they are in high-pressured jobs. When I was working, I made sure I took every last day I was entitled to take and whenever anyone commented on it - I was entitled to a lot of vacation time - I simple told them not to be jealous or stupid and worry about their own vacation and make sure they take all of it because nobody gives you a medal for sacrificing your mental and physical health.

That said, I think it's a little disingenuous to compare Bush vacations to Obama's in that if I'm not mistaken Bush took all of his vacation time either at his home in Texas or at his family's compound in Maine. Has Obama spent a day at his home in Chicago since he entered the White House? And what is with the need of liberals to hob-knob with the wealthy when they vacation? The Clinton's leeched off the well to do in Martha's Vineyard too, didn't they?

Anyway, as has been mentioned already, most every conservative I know believes your country would be much better off if Obama took the next 2 and a half years off vacationing and on the golf course.

Those are the same people who managed to lose the last two presidential elections and are very unlikely to win the next one.

IOW: they're losers.

Just telling it like it is.

Why do I suspect that you feel completely differently then there is an (R) behind the President's name....LOL

Because thats what partisans always say. Youre unable to discuss a topic without ad hominems and distractions.

Really?

Do you work a 9-5 job? At the end of the day, do you have the opportunity to go do what you want? You pretty much do, huh? So - if you had the money to do so and that's what you really wanted to do when you're off at five in the afternoon, would you go golfing? Would you do so more than once a week? Maybe. Some people do...

...and when they do so, that's not a vacation - that's something they're doing AFTER WORKING HOURS.

Of course the president is on the job 24/7 no matter where he's at, even on vacation - and most of us retired military understand this. When crap hits the fan, we're called in, we've gotta go. But that doesn't stop us from going golfing after working hours if there's no sudden emergency that requires our immediate attention.

So relax. Golf is not a vacation - it's a hobby that one does after working hours.

He might be ON CALL, but hes not on the job. When he isnt on vacation or actually working, hes campaigning or throwing parties at the white house.

And Bush got a lot done. What has Obama gotten done since 2009?

Personally, as a citizen of humanity, I don't mind if the bloke who has the sole power to destroy the world 5 times over takes a break now and then...

I do when its costing us 400 billion year in interest.

You do realize that Congress controls the purse strings. A president ( no matter the alphabet letter) can not spend money unless Congress ( no matter the alphabet letter) give them the money to spend.

Obamacare. You may not like it, I don't have any particular love for it, but it did get done.

Yup. Got a lot of kids killed for no good reason.

Stop with the silly partisan BS. It's affecting your ability to think rationally.

We all know the Libbos weren't nearly as understanding when Bush was president.

And it seems the Cons aren't understanding now that Obama is president yet they gave a free pass to Bush.

BTW Let's make it clear, a conservative (you) was the one to FIRST bring up Bush in this thread.

I agree. When im on vacation I dont think about work at all. Im not bugged about work, etc. I tend to believe when a President is "on vacation" its directly the opposite.
I agree with this, and the focus on Presidential vacations in general is way too partisan. But, there is something developing with this particular vacation that has me irked.

Oabama's interrupting his vacation and coming back to the WH on Sunday... for something that they will not confirm or divulge... then going back on Tuesday. Why? Transporting the President around is expensive. If it's important, say so. If it's not important enough to say so, don't come back, just do it from your vacation spot. Without explanation, this is being too fast-and-loose with taxpayer money.

Obama apparently agrees with me, and is coming home for a day.

A return to Washington merely to meet with staff would also seem to undercut assurances offered by the White House that the president is fully operational, even when vacationing away from the capital.

Asked about partisan criticism of the vacation last Friday, Schultz noted Obama "travels with a wide array of communications equipment, and we also travel with a staff that allows us to have robust operational capabilities."

The President is the President wherever he goes, and I'm surely not the only one who's seen photos of how much the Office ages a person. But a "friendly" such as Dana Milbank saying that Obama is giving the appearance of "tone deafness" is significant. A majority of Americans now find his handling of foreign policy poor:

—42 percent say the conflict between Israel and Hamas is “very” or “extremely” important to them; 60 percent disapprove of the way Obama has handled it.

—40 percent consider the situation in Afghanistan highly important; 60 percent disapprove of Obama’s handling of it.

—38 percent give high importance to the conflict in Ukraine; 57 percent disapprove of what Obama has done about that.

—38 percent find the situation in Iraq of pressing importance; 57 percent disapprove of Obama’s handling of it. Foreign policy no longer a strong point for Obama as troubles pile up across globe, AP-GfK poll shows | Associated Press GfK Poll

Not good. Not good for the President, and not good for our country.

If that's why he's really coming back... which I don't believe, but will run with for discussion purposes... then he is being irresponsible with taxpayer money.

Not that that, in and of itself, is unusual, of course.
