I can't say that I have the impression that they are so detached from the job ... and I don't believe that most Americans have that impression either.
This is strictly a republicon echo chamber sentiment ... "they said it about Bush so we'll say it about their guy."
It is an invented outrage, but it doesn't click with the American people ...The numbers don't add up.
129 days over six years ... that adds up to about four weeks vacation a year. That is the vacation time I got at my last two jobs and most Americans are similar.
By contrast Bush took TWELVE weeks a year vacation. Who the **** gets that?

What are you on about? What is a long time to you? Does your life revolve around the last six years? In my lifetime it's been pretty much even. Eisenhower(R) JFK(D) LBJ(D) Nixon(R) Carter(D) Reagan(R) Bush SR(R) Clinton(D) Bush W(R) Obama(D)

Now, how many days did Bush do nothing related to his job? No briefings, no reviews of anything, no discussions with anyone about anything related to the US or the world? Please provide evidence too. Thank you in advance.
Good point. I recall a lot of video hookups being set up at Bush's ranch so he could work.

And I am not really pounding Obama's vacations...Only how he chooses to pursue them in an in your face type of attitude....Like headed out to the course to play a round right after some trumped up speech condemning the beheading of an American journalist...Even you have to admit that was poor choice.

Who the hell cares at this point what Bush took for vacations? I don't he's been out a long time now...And I think you are wrong about the American people seeing him as detached from the office. I think the polls show that.

Like I said, I don't have a problem with Obama taking time with his family on vacation, I think everyone deserves that. But like I said, when he can't be bothered to at least cancel one damned round of golf in the wake of ISIS killing an American, it looks bad.

If he cant handle the job, lets get someone in there who can.
Have you ever noticed the president's desk doesn't even have a computer on it? Or that he doesn't have any desks for coworkers in the Oval Office?

What precisely do you think he does sitting in his office that he can't do elsewhere? And his coworkers are just as present when he travels as if he's in his office. They're either going to be remote or traveling with the president.

That being said, I've had employers tell me to go on vacation and tell me not to check my mail or answer my phone. But even I never assume I'll have actual vacations because I know I have responsibilities that other people can't fully cover. The ironic thing is, we know exactly who takes over for the POTUS if something happens to him. And we know exactly takes over after that person, and the next person, and the next person. The POTUS has a greater backup process than most professionals. But even with that he's effectively always on-call. He's always being briefed. He's always connected.

But of course there is still a line. Yeah, being out in the middle of the woods or in the middle of a golf course is more disconnected than being across the hall from a conference room (I'd say the woods being a bit farther than a gold course). And if something bad happens they should be able to get to Washington with relative ease. To that end, Bush had 407 days (partial or full) on vacation by this time in his presidency. Over a year's worth. Obama's at around 125.

So even if you want to ignore all the above facts about how the president stays connected, you have to admit the current one is a lot more present than the last one.

He set the precedent for what looks bad.
One forth of the year on vacation for eight years makes any other president appear to be more on the job by contrast.

So, we can only judge presidents from here on out by what their predecessor did, and as long as we can say "the other guy did..." that makes it ok?

    What a low bar.
