[RIP]Robin Williams Dead at 63 [W:194:238]

re: [RIP]Robin Williams Dead at 63 [W:194]

Very sad. My personal favorite role of his was as the voice of the Genie in Aladdin.

I didn't know that! I've watched that movie with my grandkids! R.I.P. Robin Williams.

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

Its hard to exaggerate about Robin Williams. One of the few people that "genius" applies. He could make you laugh till you cried while talking about nothing at all.

He could go from comedy to serious roles and do both quite well. He always reminded me of Tom Hanks in range. Go from super silly to dramatic . His dramatic roles were impressive -Good Will Hunting, Awakenings, Garp...

I have fond memories seeing Robin Williams at the Boarding House in San Francisco on several occasions. They would card us, we would show our underage ID and they would flag us in.:lamo .He had all ranges of funny...his imitations, his physical comedy, his stories, and his downright nasty filthy potty humor. I swear - his filthy humor could make Eddie Murphy blush.

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

My all time favorite scene. Rather ironic that in it he plays a shrink.

And just because it was such a great film...

Re: Robin Williams DEAD, Comedian, Actor

I liked Robin Williams. OP should have made this an RIP thread.

There are two separate threads going on this tragedy. Can they be combined?

Greetings, American. :2wave:

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

What a huge loss. Robin Williams was genius when it came to comedy and acting. He will be missed.

Isn't it ironic that so many comedians suffer from depression?

Thanks. Didn't know how to do this, and you are our bartender, so...I picked on you!

Seriously if you did not see Robin Williams' Live on Broadway go watch it.

Simply one of the best standup routines of all time, no other comedian of our time could match that energy.

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

Great actor, special talent, with a heart of gold. However...

Robin had a long history of depression and drug abuse. Also he was having money problems due to expensive divorces and other issues. Apparently relapsed recently after 20 years of sobriety too.

Source--my wife.

If you don't mind, I will not engage in speculation when the man just a little over a month ago was reported had not fallen off the wagon but felt a need to enter a clinic for two weeks to fight his depression and keep him from returning to the devils he struggled to rid himself. Let's wait for the toxicology reports. Hell the damn crap they prescribe for depression can do crazy things and cause irrational thinking to some folks. How about we focus on what a great entertainer he was, how he made us laugh for the time being.

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

It is one of life's mysteries that a man can make so many people laugh, when he is so unhappy himself. I am sorry for him, and for his family. May Robin Williams find the peace in the next world that he could not seem to find in this one.

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

Very sad to see him go. Depression and drug addiction is very difficult combination to beat, even with the best care.

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

RIP

What a great comedic and dramatic actor. I knew he had addiction issues but didn't know about his depression.
A sad end to a life. He was in so many movies and he just did an episode of his comedy show with Pam Dawber and there was this big reunion.

I didn't see this coming... what a shock.

My thoughts too. There have been other comedians through drugs have indirectly committed suicide.

With millions of people who loved him it is incredulous that he was not able to find happiness. He had to be in the deepest funk one can imagine. RIP Robin.

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

One of my favorite jokes that I made up myself for years involved him.

That is if you had gone back to the early 1980's, and told people that 3 of the biggest dramatic actors in 20 years would be John Travolta, Robin Williams, and Tom Hanks.

In the early 1980's, nobody had an idea of what dramatic capabilities these 3 men had.

How the hell did Travolta get in there!

At the time, we was mostly known as Vinnie Barbarino on Welcome Back Kotter.

Since then, many good dramatic roles, such as Pulp Fiction, White Man's Burden, Michael, Phenomenon, Mad City, Primary Colors, The General's Daughter, and a great many others.

Robin Williams was Mork from Ork. Tom Hanks was the guy on TV that dressed as a woman.

Funny "feeling old" story - once I was working in a company where like everybody else was in their 20s, and I was 30-something. They were talking about Travolta, and I said something about Vinnie Babarino. The idea that he was on a TV show was foreign to them.

OK, Pulp Fiction, you have a point there.;)
