Well, to be honest, I don't know if more funding could actually fix the problem. My solution wasn't psychotherapeutic drugs, and it took me years to resolve, and much pain and grief. Psych is still one of the most misunderstood fields in medicine, and what I consider effective treatment is very expensive. I'm not one who thinks that slapping a bandaid on it can really work. It takes more time, patience, and dedication than most people have, and if you get professional treatment in the form of effective and good therapy (which I believe is important), it is prohibitively expensive. I am just fortunate in that I was able to eventually deal with as as well as I do.

Well, he did manage to do one thing that is truly remarkable. He gave us a straight-to-video Disney sequel that didn't suck.

Much respect...And you are correct...Ongoing therapy is lifetime.

When I think about someone who intentionally takes his/her own life, I can't understand it, and then get a little, wee bit, I'll admit - resentful.

Please don't stomp me for saying that.
I used to be that way too, Tres. I would get so pissed, and just rail against the person for being so selfish. I never really thought about them being mentally ill, until somebody here talked about it, at length. I don't remember who committed suicide, but it pissed me right off. They had families that loved them, and they just gave up. Suicide doesn't hurt the person who does it, it hurts the people who are left behind. But then I started looking at it as a true mental illness, and I think differently. I still don't understand 100%, but at least I am not furious with him like I would have been before. I just feel sorry for him. I feel more sorry for his family, but still...

Robin Williams was right in Good Will Hunting when his character said, "It's not your fault".

I read that they just let Robin Williams run with the role of Genie. It was almost completely ad-libbed. Any Robin Williams fan could totally tell this, without them even telling us.

Yeah, suicide is one of those things that you don't really like to talk about, when it was your kid. There is an element of guilt that comes with it, because you wonder how you could have missed that something was going terribly wrong with your own child. Unfortunately, there aren't always signs, and you have no clue that anything was wrong until it's too late. That was the case here. We were all wondering wtf? We will always wonder wtf. Some questions are never answered, so you learn to live without assurances that life will always be good and predictable. It really minimizes the importance of so many trivial matters, and makes you realize that life just happens, no matter what you think, or how you feel.
