[RIP]Robin Williams Dead at 63 [W:194:238]

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

My father had a stroke and became more emotional afterwards.

I've heard about people sometimes getting more emotional after strokes. Did he fully recover?

Just like I mentioned earlier with my husband. As mild-mannered as Clark Kent until he had his stroke, and now he flips out if dinner is at 630 instead of 600. It's not all the time, though. He just has his phases where he gets pissed about, like, everything, and then he levels off. Then pissed. Then not.

Have y'all noticed that?

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

According to a statement released by Robin William's widow, William's sobriety was in check. He was also battling the early stages of Parkinson's.

Robin's sobriety was intact and he was brave as he struggled with his own battles of depression, anxiety as well as early stages of Parkinson's Disease, which he was not yet ready to share publicly. It is our hope in the wake of Robin’s tragic passing, that others will find the strength to seek the care and support they need to treat whatever battles they are facing so they may feel less afraid….

Robin spent so much of his life helping others. Whether he was entertaining millions on stage, film or television, our troops on the frontlines, or comforting a sick child -- Robin wanted us to laugh and to feel less afraid. Since his passing, all of us who loved Robin have found some solace in the tremendous outpouring of affection and admiration for him from the millions of people whose lives he touched. His greatest legacy, besides his three children, is the joy and happiness he offered to others, particularly to those fighting personal battles.

Where in his brain was the vascular accident? (which part of the brain?)

Not exactly sure. They gave him a CAT scan and saw nothing. Then they did an MRI and saw nothing. They were wondering if he even had a stroke. Then they did an MRI with contrast, and saw 2 small ones. Does that determine the effects of the stroke? I guess logically it would, huh? I want to read that book that was mentioned earlier, too. I'd like to be able to get my head around this. We were fortunate. We were shopping in Target, and he got really pissed off about something stupid, and his left leg was hurting very badly. He tromped off to go sit in the car, and I was like, "Well **** ya, then. Go your ass to the car." We finished up and left a couple minutes later, and he asked me to drive. Said his leg was hurting really badly. We drove about 15 minutes, and he said, "Honey, I don't feel well." We were passing by the exit where the hospital is, and I asked him if he wanted to stop by the ER and get checked out. When he said "yes," I knew something was wrong. He won't go to the doctor unless he is seriously worried. Within 5 minutes, were in the ER, and they kept him for days. Scary, scary time. :(

Yes, for the most part, the area of the brain where the incident occurs, determines the effects. Frontal lobe and temporal lobe areas seem to have personality effects. There are differences in right and left hemisphere effects as well. I hope he gets better soon, hon. It's hard to deal with strokes.

(and my husband was the same way. Would NOT go to a doctor unless it was really really serious, which is one of the reasons he isn't around today).

Well, let me rephrase that - he goes to the doctor. When we first got together a million years ago, he hadn't been to a doctor in years. We got together in 1996. He had had a heart attack in 1984. He hadn't seen a cardiologist since his heart attack. I changed that really quickly. Now he goes regularly, sees all his specialists regularly, takes his medication religiously. I guess I should have said, "He won't go to an ER unless he feels that it's really an emergency." But I am fortunate, because he does see his doctors regularly, and I think it's extended his life by many, many years.

Re: Robin Williams committed suicude.

Yea, sometimes I think that my brain did a workaround by tying itself into my ass. LOL.

That's not a work around. That's a brain reach around.

I don't have a lot of experience with stroke victims. But the one guy I know got over his rather quickly and doesn't seem to have any side effects other than a pretty bad fear of it happening again.

God made the Irish #1.;) That's what my mother (100% Irish) always said.

I'm only half Irish, the other half German.

You can handle him!

Might ya have some Irish in ya lass?

You know, they say whiskey was God's way of keeping the Irish from ruling the world! Guess I'm a 99%er... ethnically speaking...;)

I had the privilege and honor of spending a day at the beach with Mr. Williams & a few friends in the mid 90's. He was very humble and almost shy, which surprised me. But he let us teeny-boppers stay on set, accompany to the make-up artist, etc. He would blush at a compliment. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet him, and I'm so glad I did. I will remember that day fondly for the rest of my life.

The world is a little less bright now without him.

RIP Mr. Williams.

Very cool story, and talk about something that stays with you!

Yes, my father would cycle thru stages of anger. It was usually intense but short lived and not completely irrational. He just became short tempered.
