[R.I.P.] NASCAR's Tony Stewart hits, kills driver

It is a dirt race track, not a sidewalk.

And you believe that Stewart hit him on purpose?

What's next, murder on the PGA tour?

I take back what I said previously. Nothing will probably come from this, and these are professionals. They know the risk. Being that I am not a fan of the sport...it won't effect me either way.

Probably true. However, I would think that controlling a vehicle at high speed is something you need to be able to do to be a successful racer, which Tony Stewart is.

Don't worry - in a month this will all be the "liberal media's" fault going after a sport that they don't like because of "rednecks."

Naw, the liberal media is trying to figure out how they can make this about race.

This slow motion video supposedly shows that Stewart was on the brakes when he made contact with Ward. The quality is too low for me to tell on my monitor.

How can anyone tell? I'm not saying he wasn't, but there's no brake lights, so....how would I know?

I know the video quality is low, but on a good monitor you can see that the lettering on the tires are not moving.

It's not the monitor, it's a cruddy video. It looked like the lettering was moving to me, but even that's not something I'd hang my hat on with that poor quality.

I say they need more wrecks. I say liquor them up with white lightnin and give them all a .45

Yeehaw.

Having now watched the grainy video, all I can think is how ****ing stupid do you have to be to walk towards oncoming cars on a race track?

Yiikes.

He would have been lucky to not be dead regardless. Should have hopped his ass off the track to safety. Ugh.

It's hard to make a judgement on that, but you'd think he might have been able to avoid it. Possibly...I mean the man is a professional race car driver - being able to control a vehicle at high speed is kind of part of the job.

He wasn't driving at high speeds but those little cars are very unstable.

Pulling the steering wheel sharply will flip the car possibly causing his own death.

Just like when driving onthe street, hit whatever comes into your path. When you swerve, you die.

Your words, not mine...Look, Sprint cars from what I understand, are set up to go left. Larger tires on the outside track of the car, limited right turn capability, and such. The end of the track that Ward got out of the car on is not as well lit as other parts, and Ward was in a black suit. The visibility inside the Sprint car is limited, and the fact that pre race driver meetings I assume have the instruction to the participants to stay off the track in the event of a wreck.

Look, I think it is tragic that this happened, I don't know if Stewart will return to racing. And I think that it was a preventable accident, in the manner that Ward had NO PLACE running out in to moving traffic no matter how upset he was....Doesn't add up to any kind of crime though.
